The Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership (EDL) is designed to serve the needs of practicing school administrators, and for those who wish to prepare for a career in educational administration.

Situated in the heart of the Canadian prairies on Treaty 4 territory and the homeland of the Métis people, the Faculty of Science aspires to be a premier postsecondary academic unit, recognized for the significance, novelty, and impact of its research, and for the quality, relevance, and currency of its academic programs. The Faculty of Science has nearly 1800 undergraduate and graduate students in academic programs leading to Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral degrees, as well as a number of diplomas and certificates. Our work is supported by nearly ninety permanent academic staff and more than thirty administrative and scientific staff. If you enjoy discovering how previous generations made decisions about great issues of their time, then history is for you. History student study the many different nations, peoples and cultures of the past from political, economic, social, cultural, and gender perspectives. A history degree will help you understand how civilizations have evolved and developed, and why we have the societies we do today.

Process Systems Engineering (PSEng) is a broad category of engineering that deals with the process design for the purpose of converting raw goods to usable end products, including energy. Process engineering looks at the entire process from Point A, which is a raw material, to Point Z, which is the desired end product. It does not necessarily deal with acquiring the raw base material, although knowledge of its acquisition is part of the U of R’s systems approach to teaching and research.

The Master of Indigenous Language Education degree aims to:

• Prepare students as leaders in Indigenous language acquisition and revitalization;
• Provide students with the required skills, knowledge, and competencies needed to become effective Indigenous language educators;
• Prepare students to conduct research with Indigenous peoples;
• Provide students with opportunities to learn, understand, and experience Indigenous knowledges, worldviews and perspectives; and
• Equip students with the competencies and abilities to integrate Indigenous languages and knowledge into school curricula.

Teachers, Indigenous language activists, and language and social policy makers currently working in elementary, secondary and post-secondary institutions (both off and on-reserve) as well as government, public and private sectors are the target groups for this program.

The Master of Public Policy (MPP) provides students with opportunities to conduct research and contribute to the study of public policy and the application of policy expertise in the real world. Students graduating from this program possess the research skills necessary to play integral roles in the civil service, research organizations and industry associations. Top students from this program may go on to doctoral programs in public policy.

The program emphasis is on water and wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality management, industrial air pollution control, groundwa ter contamination, geotechnical engineering, transportation, sustainability and urban development, risk assessment, environmental modeling/simulation/optimization, and energy & environment.

This 30 credit hour program is designed for advanced studies in music theory. The first 15 credit hours are devoted to honing students’ critical writing and thinking skills, through courses in bibliography and research techniques specific to music, specialized music theory seminars, and directed reading courses in the area of the student’s research interests. All students also take graduate courses in critical theory in the fine arts. The remainder of the program is devoted to writing a thesis on an original topic chosen by students in consultation with their supervisor. Current areas of faculty expertise are broad and include tonal and post-tonal analysis, music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods, opera of the 18th and 19th centuries, music in Canada, the Lied, contemporary classical music, and interdisciplinary topics such as soundscapes and sound art.

Increasingly, humans are inhabiting areas of both natural and human-made geological hazards. In order to prepare for and manage potential hazards, we need to know more about the natural geological processes that affect them. New generations will need to know more about the earth to make the best decisions for humans’ well-being.

Geology emphasizes solid earth science and applications in mineral and oil and gas resources. It can be divided into two areas of concentrations:

• Mineral exploration
• Oil and gas exploration

Our program has a well-rounded curriculum that promotes a solid understanding of the fundamentals of the earth sciences across all sub-disciplines, combined with extensive hands-on training, field-oriented class exercises, regular use of the Saskatchewan Geological Survey’s subsurface core repository, and two intensive field school courses. Our programs have an established reputation for training highly qualified graduates.
