Lassonde’s Software Engineering program prepares students for a career using state-of-the-art computing labs, a full suite of software development tools, and hands-on experience in the design and development of software products.

In a capstone project, you work with a team to design, test and deploy a significant and exciting product using all the knowledge and skills you have gained.

After second year, you can take part in the co-op program, giving you an early start to becoming a licensed Professional Engineer.

Small classes (groups of only 25 Anglophone and Francophone students) provide an ideal setting for learning and mastering skills of translation.
Unique in Southern Ontario, our program addresses a significant shortage of English, French and Spanish translators in Canada. Our graduates work for the United Nations, the Government of Canada, law firms, publishing houses and more. They have also developed careers in editing, writing and teaching.

As a Translation student, you’ll forge a strong professional network and will obtain a free membership to the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario with access to all its services, job postings, workshops and networking opportunities.

Public management leaders must have multidisciplinary knowledge, critical skills and abilities to realize their vision to advance the public interest. At York, we prepare leaders for the broader public sector that spans all levels of government, public institutions and non-profit organizations, who can excel and thrive in a dynamic multicultural environment. Our graduates also work as policy analysts, legal and regulatory compliance officers, consultants and government relations managers in the private sector.

Through courses in areas such as public administration, Canadian government and public law, you’ll examine current and emerging debates regarding public institutions, law, human rights and diversity. You’ll also gain a clear understanding of the theory and practice of government while acquiring expertise relevant to policy analysis, program evaluation and other public service functions such as project management, human resources, budgeting and finance.

The Bachelor of Public Administration is an Honours only program and students also have the option to specialize in one of three streams:

Many courses involve simulations and exercises drawn from real world scenarios at all three levels of Canadian government. A limited number of practicum and internship placements are available for qualified students.
Staffed by faculty with strong research records and many years combined experience in active public service, the School provides a sense of community for students who share a fascination with questions of governance, administration, public ethics and the law.

The Financial & Business Economics program in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies is specifically designed for students who are interested in understanding the workings of financial markets, such as the stock market and the financing of companies. You'll gain a broad understanding of the economic framework upon which financial theory is based and gather the tools needed for navigating financial markets and business decisions.

The program combines a rigorous quantitative and analytical approach with practical application. Through a blend of economic theory and applied tools of modern finance, you will develop a solid knowledge of the microeconomic principles underlying financial markets and instruments, the macroeconomic role of finance, and the quantitative tools commonly used for analyzing financial markets.

The Sexuality Studies program is an undergraduate program affiliated with York’s world renowned School of Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies.

Sexuality Studies is an interdisciplinary field that explores artistic, cultural, economic, geographic, historical, literary, political, psychological and social aspects of sexuality. Our program examines sexuality in transnational contexts and investigates intersections of sexuality with ability, age, class, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, health, nationality, race and religion.

You will learn alternative ways of organizing sexualities and alternatives to sexuality, in the past, present and future, as well as explore and gain a comprehensive understanding of sexual:

Students in Sexuality Studies can choose from more than 50 courses from various academic areas and take discipline-based courses in fields such as anthropology, geography, history, literature, philosophy, political science, and sociology. Explore further with interdisciplinary courses that use diverse theories and methods derived from the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, fine arts and professional studies. Courses, seminars, lectures and special events address lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, intersexual, cissexual, heterosexual and heteronormative topics.

• You will have the opportunity to learn from more than 20 affiliated professors with international reputations for outstanding work in the field of sexuality studies.
• Sexuality Studies at York is unlike other programs because it is interdisciplinary and transnational. You can combine a sexuality studies degree (major or minor) with another more traditional degree (like psychology), or complete a Sexuality Studies certificate (open to all, regardless of educational background).
• Outside the classroom, you can participate in the activities of the Centre for Women and Trans People at York which offers resources, seminars, and activities. At the Keele Campus students are welcome to join SexGen, a program responsible for addressing issues and concerns of sexual and gender diversity, whether in terms of university policy areas, academic climate or the general university environment.

Drama Studies can lead to a career in various aspects of theatre and is also excellent preparation for a career in teaching, public speaking and many other fields.

Get to know drama as a study of literature and performance with courses that integrate the study of language, literature, critical theory, performance media and genres (such as film or television). You’ll learn from award-winning experts in their fields, explore varied works of dramatic literature and performance and get hands-on experience with productions in English, French and Spanish with our student-led production company. Glendon's black box theatre boasts excellent lighting, sound and multimedia technologies.

Urban Studies at York stresses the importance of fieldwork when studying the social and spatial fabric of cities.

The city is among the most fundamental human institutions. Across history, cities have been sites of basic innovation in economic, political and cultural life — centres of trade, seats of empire and the locale of scientific, social and artistic creativity. Cities retain these roles today and are the home of a growing majority of the world’s population who increasingly live in large metropolitan regions of several million people. Often, as in many Canadian cities, these urban regions are marked by complex social diversity, striking contrasts of wealth and poverty and a challenging array of planning and environmental dilemmas.

Urban Studies is the attempt to understand cities and city life — how they function, the current and future concerns of their residents. This encompasses the political institutions, economic and social relations, physical landscapes and cultural frameworks that constitute the city.

As a student in Urban Studies, you will focus on cities as distinctive entities and explore the meaning and function of cities in the larger society. You'll be taking courses from a broad range of fields including:

• Environmental studies

• Psychology.

You will also examine the processes that produce certain patterns of human settlement and chart the changing relationships among areas shaped by urbanization, such as metropolis and countryside, city and suburb, municipality and region.

Specialize in one of these streams: Atmospheric Science, Geomatics Science or Space Science. Atmospheric Science explores meteorology from the turbulent micro-scale to the large synoptic-scale weather systems. Geomatics Science delivers the knowledge and skills to work with terrestrial, aerial and space-observing platforms. Space Science explores the near-Earth space environment, as well as other planets. 

What You’ll Learn
Atmospheric Science explores meteorology from the turbulent micro scale to the large synoptic scale weather systems. In our program, you will learn how we use computer models to forecast the weather and will develop a deeper understanding of the processes that drive severe weather, climate and climate change. You can top off your degree with a Certificate in Meteorology.

In Geomatics Science (formerly Earth Science), you will study about modern geophysics, Earth’s gravity field, satellite geodesy, reference systems, plus surveying and mapping with emphasis in the areas of geospatial science and applications. Our program provides you the knowledge and skills to work with terrestrial, aerial and space observing platforms. Add depth to your degree with a certificate in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing.

Space Science explores the near Earth space environment as well as other planets. You will learn how to investigate and establish new satellite programs for optical aeronomy, dynamics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere and monitoring the recovering ozone layer.
