The program was designed with industry so you will graduate not only with the practical skills and knowledge in aquatic ecology and marine conservation biology but also communication and operations management skills so you can make an immediate contribution to the aquaculture industry whether locally, nationally or internationally. The program provides you with flexibility through elective study options to choose the area, such as marine conservation or business, that you would like to study.

There are a range of opportunities available to help you into employment and future study in this growing and key industry sector. This level 5 program is the first year of the diploma qualifications. You will focus on fitness techniques, health, nutrition, anatomy and physiology, training, coaching and motivating people with the sector. This program replaces the Diploma in Applied Fitness. If you have partially completed the Diploma in Applied Fitness you will be able to transition onto this new qualification.

With this program, you’ll work closely with adventure operators to gain experience in the adventure tourism industry. NMIT has conveniently located a short distance from three awesome National Parks (Kahurangi, Abel Tasman, and Nelson Lakes). While there are a number of classes on campus, you will also often be out and about hiking, rafting, rock climbing, sea-kayaking, skiing, snowboarding or canyoning.

If your aim is to become a professionally qualified counsellor, this is the program for you

After completing this program, you’ll be able to enter the counselling profession at a beginning practitioner level. Practical placements are an essential part of the program and you’ll spend time working in community agencies and organisations. Once you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to apply for provisional membership of a relevant professional body such as the NZAC, Te Wh?riki Tautoko, DAPAANZ or NZ Christian Counsellors Association. You’ll have developed the skills and professional attributes to enable you to work collaboratively within this increasingly complex and interdisciplinary sector.

The Graduate Diploma in Information Technology is for students who have already completed a degree. This program provides comprehensive knowledge and training in the latest developments in computer technology. The Graduate Diploma in IT is designed on a one to one basis. The Bachelor of Social Work qualification will provide you with the core professional competencies and attributes required to enter the social work profession. In doing so, you will be awarded a provisional registration at the level of a beginning practitioner. This is the first step to becoming a fully registered social worker after completing two years of supervised practice. Field placement is a significant element in this program which will enable you to get firsthand experience through voluntary work and supervised placements in a social service agency.  You will also develop a range of flexible skills and professional attributes which will position you well to be responsive to and to work collaboratively within the increasingly complex and interdisciplinary social service and health communities. The skills you can during this degree are also applicable across a wide range of roles.

The Bachelor of Arts and Media programme provides the fundamental skills to enable graduates to move into personal practice or embark on a career in arts and design.

Grounded in academic and technical excellence, you will learn the effective use of visual language by developing extensive knowledge in painting, graphic design, animation, photography, digital video and illustration.
