As a biomedical science student at ARU, you’ll learn about the human body at molecular, organ and systems levels, and how to investigate and treat disease.

Biomedical science is the field that underpins modern medicine. It’s always changing and developing, so it’s an exciting and rewarding subject to study. We’ll begin by studying general biology, human anatomy and physiology, microbiology and cellular and molecular biology. Then we turn our attention to modern diagnostic techniques, and learn about biomedical disciplines including haematology and transfusion science, clinical biochemistry, cellular pathology, medical genetics, medical microbiology and clinical immunology.

As part of your course, you’ll get the chance to immerse yourself in placements and build up the knowledge and skills to deliver patient care.

Our BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing degree is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council, so you’ll be eligible to apply for registration once you graduate and kick start your career as a registered adult nurse.

Student nurses can take advantage of nursing training grants worth at least £5,000 per year.

Our Nursing and Midwifery Council validated Adult Nursing degree course places equal value on clinical practice and theory. It’ll take you from university lectures to a variety of placements. You may well find yourself working with younger and mature adults at a GP surgery, attending health visits or in a variety of hospital settings, from A&E through to acute care and oncology.

Placements last around seven to 12 weeks and include both acute and community settings. There are opportunities in older person care, dementia care, district nursing, surgical setting and more. There’s also the option of a self-funded overseas placement at the end of Year 2.

You’ll be linked to one of our NHS healthcare trust partners for your placements.

• If you study in Cambridge or Peterborough, you’ll do your placements in or around Cambridge, Huntingdon or Peterborough.
• If you study in Chelmsford, you’ll do your placements in or around Chelmsford, Southend, Basildon, Harlow or Colchester.

We want to make sure you experience a variety of placements and that you graduate as an effective practitioner. Our placement maps will help you plan your travel before you start on the course.

On placement, you’ll be working shifts. This can mean early, late and night shifts, as well as working weekends and bank holidays. You’ll be supported by practice supervisors and assessors as well as staff from ARU.

Meanwhile, teaching on campus usually takes place between 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday.

Each year, you’ll get allocated annual leave at set points to support you in balancing your course and relaxation time.

Throughout your time studying Adult Nursing at ARU, you’ll have the chance to share experiences with students from other health care courses, and to see how the professions work together to provide effective and seamless care.

Our planet needs protecting. Gain a deep understanding of the concerns surrounding marine and terrestrial environments and the specialist skills to tackle them on our Ecology and Conservation degree in Cambridge.

Individuals, organisations and governments around the world are increasingly concerned about the welfare of our planet and everything on it. This includes both our marine and terrestrial environments where many factors, including human behaviour, have left a large number of species at risk.

Our course allows you to develop a deep understanding of concerns relating to marine and terrestrial environments, and to look at ways of resolving those concerns.

You’ll learn about marine biodiversity locally and around the world, and explore conservation ecology, which aims to support, recover and maintain populations and their habitats.

There are opportunities to attend residential field trips. Field trips that are a compulsory part of your course are covered by your fees. There are also optional field trips (either extra-curricular or an integral part of an optional module you select to take) that you would have to pay for.

Cambridge is becoming a world centre for wildlife conservation, with Fauna and Flora International, Birdlife International and the World Conservation Monitoring Centre based here. Throughout our BSc (Hons) Ecology and Conservation degree, you’ll have opportunities to attend lectures in the city and visit specialist museums and libraries.

Experiment with methods, explore ideas and critically reflect on your practice to develop your own personal visual vocabulary. Create original children’s book projects, supported by a team of internationally-recognised illustrators.

The first course of its kind, MA Children’s Book Illustration was established at Cambridge School of Art in 2001 and is led by Course Leader Shelley Jackson. Over the last twenty years, we’ve seen hundreds of graduates publish children’s books around the world, many to critical acclaim. Students and graduates often dominate national and international awards, too.

On each module of this Masters course you’ll propose and develop a project guided by our leading team of tutors—all practitioners with a wide range of specialisms. Teaching is primarily through one-to-one and group tutorials, seminars, workshops and studio critiques, in which you will learn about relevant theories, contexts and practices. This course will give you an understanding of how international relations theory is applied to real-world policy and strategy, and the practical problems involved in this.

As a Musical Theatre student at ARU, you’ll train with industry professionals, take part in showcases and productions from Year 1, and gain real-world experience.

On our BA (Hons) Musical Theatre degree you will gain skills unique to musical theatre training, specifically actor-musicianship, physical theatre, dance and choreography.

Your tutors will include established musical directors, artistic directors and choreographers – and you’ll learn in professional facilities including our Mumford Theatre.

In your first year as a Musical Theatre student we’ll work on a small-scale musical, before tackling a full-scale book musical as your second year begins.

Next comes an Industry Project on an intense four- to five-week schedule, led by a professional director and our resident Musical Director. Our Musical Theatre degree features four productions and two skills showcases. You’ll learn advanced audition techniques and produce your own showreel. Alongside this, you’ll gain confidence, emotional resilience, and the ability to work as part of a team.

As a Computer Science student at ARU, you’ll cover all aspects of technologies and user environments, along with the skills to create and manage IT solutions. By the end of the course, you’ll have experience covering the full life cycle of a web application, specifically:

• Developing the front end and back end of a web app whilst securely storing the data in relational databases
• Using ontologies as an alternative to the databases to store information and query it
• Recognising the vulnerabilities and learning techniques to build secure systems
• Being confident in knowing the infrastructure required to deploy web applications successfully.

From here, you’ll be able to successfully apply your knowledge to the development of any other type of software application (being it mobile, cloud, standalone).

Many of our students choose to study law because they’re motivated by the idea of helping people. And so, from your first year, you’ll have the opportunity to work in our law clinics in Cambridge or Chelmsford. With support from qualified solicitors, you’ll advise members of the public on legal issues.

It’s well worth joining our student Law Society, too. They take part in national competitions such as Mooting, and have a track record of success. It could be a great achievement to add to your CV.

All this practical experience is, of course, backed up by classroom teaching. Our lecturers combine academic modules with those that focus on areas of professional practice, such as human rights law.

As you progress through the LLB (Hons) Law course, you’ll have the chance to take optional modules and explore areas of law that are of particular interest to you.
