Our BEng (Hons) Electronics and Robotics is designed to put you at the forefront of today’s engineering world.

Placing an emphasis on Industry 4.0 concepts such as digital tools for engineering, the internet of things (IoT), and systematic, project-based approaches, it’ll equip you with skills and knowledge that are in high demand among employers.

Electronics and robotics engineers are required to think originally and critically; work innovatively, creatively and sustainably; and consider the social, commercial, legal and environmental impacts of their work. Throughout the course, you’ll have opportunities to practice these skills, making you well-prepared to enter the workplace when you graduate.You’ll gain experience of every aspect of the development of smart connected electronics and robotics systems today, helping you to discover where your talents and interests lie and determine how you want to use your degree.

Engineering is all about taking a product or system and looking at how it can be improved, whether it is in the development, processing, design, or even the materials used. Our new four-year MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course has been created with a focus on project-based learning, allowing you to take your in-class theory and apply it in a hands-on project module that will run throughout the year.

You will study alongside other students in the various areas of mechanical engineering, specialising in additive manufacturing in your final year and in certain modules throughout your course.

By studying our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course, you will learn through a wide range of lab sessions, exploring manufacturing, 3D printing, thermodynamics, dynamics, and structural analysis so you can analyse, calculate, model, and experience your proposed concepts. As a part of your project-based learning you will undertake group work where you will be in a team of multi-disciplined students from across the different areas of mechanical engineering. This integrated learning will allow you to develop skills that are invaluable to future employers, including analytical and creative problem-solving skills. You’ll also benefit from dedicated support from our experienced staff, who are both experienced professionals from industry and expert researchers.

Our MEng Additive Manufacturing Engineering degree course leads you through computer based advanced design, simulation and modelling practice in various topics including computational engineering, fluid dynamics, stress analysis, and industrial management. You’ll benefit from using our workshop and laboratory facilities including CAD/CAM and engineering computer modelling centre, industrial-scale CNC milling and lathe machines, metal and plastic rapid prototyping machines, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment, electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal-generating and testing facilities, wind tunnel, air compressors, steam engine and many more laboratory facilities used during course and in individual and group major projects.

Students completing an IMechE accredited degree are deemed to have met, part or all, of the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and are in a strong position to move on to achieve professional engineering status after a period of initial professional development in industry. The MSc will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Accredited MSc graduates who also have a BEng (Hons) accredited for CEng will be able to show that they have satisfied the educational base for CEng registration.

It should be noted that graduates from an accredited MSc programme who do not also have an appropriately accredited Honors degree will not be regarded as having the exemplifying qualifications for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council; they will need to have their first qualification individually assessed through the Individual Case Procedure if they wish to progress to CEng.

Whatever your background is, our course will meet your personal, professional and educational needs through engaging with innovation, research and leadership.

For the blended version of the course, each module starts with a two day workshop to explain the module and expectations. It's also an opportunity to build relationships with peers and staff. Part-time students will do two days of workshops and one module per trimester. Full-time students will do four, one-day workshop and two modules per trimester. The workshops will be in Chelmsford but if numbers are sufficient they can be put on at our Cambridge campus.

The rest of the learning is distance learning through the virtual learning environment. This has been built as a very innovative learning environment which addresses all learning styles.

For distance only students, the workshop will be replicated online through our virtual learning environment.

Each module takes a virtual international journey – the first is the Siberian express travelling from Moscow to China. Students can collect different types of learning materials at each station and the complete tasks, activities and exercises to help develop their learning on each subject area. Students also have access to a blog and a discussion board to post answers and questions with an alert on each one so the distance learning module tutor managing the environment will then be alerted when students have posted. There's also a goods van with study skills material in it.

As a BSc (Hons) Policing and Criminal Justice student at ARU, you’ll develop your knowledge and skills by studying real-life cases and academic research, and taking part in interactive learning.

You’ll debate the most pressing issues facing police forces today, including sexual offences, fraud investigation, counter-terrorism initiatives and cultural diversity. You can also examine the trial process, and practice presenting evidence in front of a judge and jury, in our own on-campus mock courtroom.

We’ll help you work towards your career goals from day one. Our modules, trips, simulations, guest lectures, and work experience opportunities with local police forces and criminal justice practitioners will help you discover where your interests lie and build valuable skills and connections. You’ll also boost your CV as you develop your leadership, interpersonal communication and presentation skills.

Studying our MSc Pharmaceutical Science will expand your knowledge of the design, analysis and manufacturing processes of effective and safe pharmaceutical products.

Our SuperLabs and Pharmaceutical Research Lab in Chelmsford will become your workspace as you carry out safe and ethical experiments while meeting world-class pharmaceutical standards. You’ll develop scientific-reasoning and problem-solving skills in addition to deepen your understanding of quality control and quality assurance of pharmaceutical products.You’ll also develop a wider knowledge of the integral parts of the pharmaceutical industry including research, development, manufacturing, distribution, marketing and sales.

The industry is always developing, which is why we’ll challenge you to debate contemporary or difficult topics and solutions such as drug safety, ethical issues, the readiness of a potential drug for clinical trial in humans and pharmacovigilance.

Our collaborative team of research active academic staff and industry specialists will help you develop your research skills and understand how research informs quality practice judgements.

You want to hone your legal knowledge, learn from professionals and gain practical experience.

If you hope to use your legal skills in other areas – such as business, finance, policy making or public service – our law course will give you the transferable skills you need.  

Many of our students choose to study law because they’re motivated by the idea of helping people. And so, from your first year, you’ll have the opportunity to work in our law clinics in Cambridge or Chelmsford. ARU’s teaching facilities include our Bloomberg Financial Markets Lab, where you’ll be able to practice your skills from the first year. It will be your safe space to learn all the tricks of the trade. This way, you’ll be ready for your first graduate role with proficiency in contemporary platforms that are used around the financial world.

Receiving an industry-recognised Bloomberg certification on graduation will only increase your pool of career options. From chartered management accountant and credit analyst, through management consultant and corporate investment banker, to bank manager, marketing executive, project manager or environmental manager – the routes after this degree are immeasurable.
