Studying our MEng (Hons) Civil and Construction Engineering four-year degree course will give you all the technical skills and intellectual know-how to be a civil engineer in a constantly changing world.

At ARU, our Civil and Construction Engineering course focusses on infrastructure engineering and will give you the practical skills and experience needed to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects. You’ll develop crucial mathematical, technical and design skills that all civil engineers need, while taking a more holistic view of the overall design of a built environment which is resilient to future challenges.

Studying our MEng Civil and Construction Engineering degree course will give you the knowledge and skills in the management of construction projects. You will assess the safety of a structure such as an old building to approve it as safe for others to work on, and provide specifications and calculations for designs.

Using our specialist workshops and labs you will learn how to carry out site investigations, select the best materials for the job, analyse and design structures and engineering systems, plan the construction process and assess and mitigate the environmental impact of the project. Quantity surveyors play a vital role in deciding whether construction projects are financially viable. And so, through studying our Quantity Surveying degree,, you’ll gain a vital understanding of issues such as value for money, health and safety and the environment – as well as exploring the wider context of the built environment.

Once you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to register with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and start working as a chartered quantity surveyor. You could also choose to develop a specialism or start a career in research with our wide range of full- and part-time postgraduate degrees.

You have the option to study this course as a four-year degree with foundation year. In your first year you'll study with our partner, ARU College, on our Cambridge campus. In Years 2-4 you'll study in Chelmsford or ARU Peterborough.

The construction industry is one of the most dynamic, diverse and significant in the world. We live, work and play in the built environment, and our Construction Management degree course will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the technology and management involved in its creation.

We'll focus on the key stages and process of planning, construction and maintenance. These range from building design and technology, to resource management and project administration. Our one-year Top-up Degree combines university study with experience in practice with the support of Practice Assessors and Supervisors to enhance your knowledge of working and caring for people in the community.

In particular, you'll focus on population and caseload management; on supporting your patients to achieve and sustain independence; and on caring for those who are either unwell, recovering or at end of life.

As a district nursing student at ARU, you’ll explore how individuals and their families can care for themselves at home, enhancing people’s dignity and reducing hospital admissions. Our course will give you the skills you need to take on this rewarding role, with an understanding of legal and ethical issues.

By the end of the year, you’ll record your qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Community Specialist Practitioner (District Nursing) with a prescribing qualification.
