Our Accounting and Finance degree course will set you up with all the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to work in finance or as an accountant once you graduate from ARU.

You’ll gain an in-depth understanding of advanced design and analysis techniques, the use of modern materials and manufacturing technology. Our facilities include a CAD/CAM centre, industrial-scale CNC milling machine, CNC lathe, rapid prototyping machine, scanning electronic microscope, Instron bi-axial fatigue-testing machine, tensile-testing machine, material-preparation facilities, welding equipment and electronic testing and measuring equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal generating and testing facilities.

Students completing an IMechE accredited degree are deemed to have met, part or all, of the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered or Incorporated Engineer and are in a strong position to move on to achieve professional engineering status after a period of initial professional development in industry. The MSc will meet, in part, the exemplifying academic benchmark requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer. Accredited MSc graduates who also have a BEng (Hons) accredited for CEng will be able to show that they have satisfied the educational base for CEng registration.

It should be noted that graduates from an accredited MSc programme who do not also have an appropriately accredited Honors degree will not be regarded as having the exemplifying qualifications for professional registration as a Chartered Engineer with the Engineering Council; they will need to have their first qualification individually assessed through the Individual Case Procedure if they wish to progress to CEng.

As a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying student at ARU, you’ll learn how to financially manage construction projects from initial concept, through to design, build and maintenance.

Quantity surveyors play a vital role in deciding whether construction projects are financially viable. And so, through studying our Quantity Surveying degree,, you’ll gain a vital understanding of issues such as value for money, health and safety and the environment – as well as exploring the wider context of the built environment.

Once you’ve graduated, you’ll be able to register with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and start working as a chartered quantity surveyor. You could also choose to develop a specialism or start a career in research with our wide range of full- and part-time postgraduate degrees.

You have the option to study this course as a four-year degree with foundation year. In your first year you'll study with our partner, ARU College, on our Cambridge campus. In Years 2-4 you'll study in Chelmsford or ARU Peterborough.

Our BEng (Hons) Electronics and Robotics is designed to put you at the forefront of today’s engineering world.

Placing an emphasis on Industry 4.0 concepts such as digital tools for engineering, the internet of things (IoT), and systematic, project-based approaches, it’ll equip you with skills and knowledge that are in high demand among employers.

Electronics and robotics engineers are required to think originally and critically; work innovatively, creatively and sustainably; and consider the social, commercial, legal and environmental impacts of their work. Throughout the course, you’ll have opportunities to practice these skills, making you well-prepared to enter the workplace when you graduate.You’ll gain experience of every aspect of the development of smart connected electronics and robotics systems today, helping you to discover where your talents and interests lie and determine how you want to use your degree.

The construction industry is one of the most dynamic, diverse and significant in the world. We live, work and play in the built environment, and our Construction Management degree course will develop your skills, knowledge and understanding of the technology and management involved in its creation.

We'll focus on the key stages and process of planning, construction and maintenance. These range from building design and technology, to resource management and project administration. Studying our MEng (Hons) Civil and Construction Engineering four-year degree course will give you all the technical skills and intellectual know-how to be a civil engineer in a constantly changing world.

At ARU, our Civil and Construction Engineering course focusses on infrastructure engineering and will give you the practical skills and experience needed to work on multimillion pound infrastructure projects. You’ll develop crucial mathematical, technical and design skills that all civil engineers need, while taking a more holistic view of the overall design of a built environment which is resilient to future challenges.

With our newly designed courses your learning will be based around the civil engineering project, giving you the chance to immediately apply the theory you learn in class to the challenges of the project.

Studying our MEng Civil and Construction Engineering degree course will give you the knowledge and skills in the management of construction projects. You will assess the safety of a structure such as an old building to approve it as safe for others to work on, and provide specifications and calculations for designs.

Using our specialist workshops and labs you will learn how to carry out site investigations, select the best materials for the job, analyse and design structures and engineering systems, plan the construction process and assess and mitigate the environmental impact of the project. Whatever your background is, our course will meet your personal, professional and educational needs through engaging with innovation, research and leadership.

For the blended version of the course, each module starts with a two day workshop to explain the module and expectations. It's also an opportunity to build relationships with peers and staff. Part-time students will do two days of workshops and one module per trimester. Full-time students will do four, one-day workshop and two modules per trimester. The workshops will be in Chelmsford but if numbers are sufficient they can be put on at our Cambridge campus.

The rest of the learning is distance learning through the virtual learning environment. This has been built as a very innovative learning environment which addresses all learning styles.

For distance only students, the workshop will be replicated online through our virtual learning environment.

Each module takes a virtual international journey – the first is the Siberian express travelling from Moscow to China. Students can collect different types of learning materials at each station and the complete tasks, activities and exercises to help develop their learning on each subject area. Students also have access to a blog and a discussion board to post answers and questions with an alert on each one so the distance learning module tutor managing the environment will then be alerted when students have posted. There's also a goods van with study skills material in it.
