You will also gain an understanding of the role politics plays at local, national and global levels and explore the crucial issues in contemporary international politics that are impacting our world. You can choose to specialise in either History, Politics or International Relations. On this course you will place your own practice (whether emerging or established) at the heart of your studies. Using a range of artistic and scholarly perspectives from dance and other artistic disciplines, you will explore new approaches to the research and realisation of choreography in professional and academic contexts.  The curriculum emphasises the development of practice research, interdisciplinarity and authorship.

Balancing taught with independent study, the course is delivered from practical and scholarly perspectives through studio-based and classroom activities. You will explore practice-research methods, critical choreographic contexts, performance making and negotiated study. DMU’s Music Technology BA is a distinctive, dynamic and market-leading course that challenges conventions in music composition and performance and explores the extraordinary musical possibilities offered by new technologies. It is ideal for forward-thinking and imaginative individuals whose passion is to create exceptional music and forge a unique voice within the arts and creative industries.

You will explore an extensive range of approaches to creating and performing, such as multi-track recording, production and composition, new technologies for musical performance, music and sound for moving image, sound synthesis theory and practice, site-specific and installation work, computer coding for the creative artist, and advanced surround sound.

You will study digital and post-digital history and aesthetics to inspire your creative vision and link your music meaningfully to the world. Based on your goals, you will choose specific compositional, technical and theoretical topics to research more deeply, particularly as you enter our flexible third year of study.

The course is taught by internationally recognised, experienced musicians who are active performers, composers and researchers.

Computational Intelligence (CI) encompasses the techniques and methods used to tackle problems that traditional approaches to computing struggle to solve. The four areas of fuzzy logic, neural networks, CI optimisation and knowledge-based systems encompass much of what is considered to be computational (or artificial) intelligence. There are also opportunities to apply what you learn in areas such as robot control and games development, depending on your interests. ? 

You can choose from a number of specialist modules including natural language processing, artificial neural networks and data mining techniques, while developing your skills in our dedicated robotics laboratory, equipped with a variety of mobile robots. The applied computational intelligence?module considers knowledge-based systems, as well as the historical, philosophical and future implications of AI, and focuses on current research and applications in the area. 

The English Language Teaching MA programme bridges theoretical knowledge of language teaching and learning, with practical classroom experience. You will graduate with both the practical skills and advanced theoretical understanding to succeed as an English Language teacher at all levels, from primary and secondary schools to universities and English Language schools, both in the UK and overseas.

Throughout the course you will hone your theoretical and analytical abilities, examining research into language teaching and learning and its implications for educators. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to practise in the classroom and be encouraged to critically reflect upon your own technique and approach.

You’ll be introduced to emerging trends in contemporary practice including presentation, installation, curatorial and representational issues, and learn how to develop research methods to inform your creative decisions.

You will be encouraged to ask questions and take a personal and critical position in the globalised creative world, equipped with the skills to produce and exhibit your work, to embrace change in the fast-evolving creative industries and challenge artistic conventions.

Teaching takes place in our creative studio environment with support from a highly skilled team of technicians, and you will have access to a range of workshops to experiment and innovate with materials and processes. Our exhibiting artists and research-active academics have interdisciplinary expertise in drawing, painting, sculpture, analogue and digital photography, digital media, printmaking, public art, installation and relational practice. You will build important professional practice skills throughout the course with opportunities to curate and exhibit your work. Develop a dialogue around your work by participating in discussion groups and seminars and be part of a dynamic cohort of Fine Art students, from BA to PhD.

Informed by a mix of contemporary methods of performance making, current scholarly thinking and historical theatrical traditions, this course is ideal for those seeking a career in a range of arts-related areas. You will engage both creatively and critically with a range of topics including acting, performing, directing and theatre for social change, while being supported to develop your own artistic vision, personal interests and aspirations.

Developed with industry and certified by the NCSC (National Cyber Security Centre), this course directly addresses the unprecedented demand for cyber security expertise. It explores the underpinning technology of cyber domain and the role of linguistics, psychology and sociology in dealing with new cyber challenges.

You will study a diverse range of modules, including Cyber Threat Intelligence, Malware Analysis, and Penetration Testing and Incident Response, providing the fundamental knowledge needed to work in the sector. You will also produce a substantial piece of individual work in your third semester, with the support of your academic supervisor, investigating a topic tailored to your own area of interest.

The involvement of the Industrial Advisory Group (Airbus, BT, Deloitte UK and Rolls-Royce) in designing the course and supporting its delivery ensures the teaching remains current and supportive of the real challenges faced by cyber security specialists.

You will be taught by recognised experts in cyber security and will develop your professional skills within the Cyber Technology Institute (CTI), with its purpose-built cyber security and forensics laboratories.

We expect graduates to find employment as cyber security specialists within law enforcement, government, commercial IT departments and security consultancies. Previous graduates have gone on to work for cyber security specialist organisations including Capgemini.
