Are you looking for a course that prepares you for the demands of a career in journalism? By studying journalism at Kingston, you'll develop skills in digital journalism, mobile reporting, video and social media, news and feature writing. You'll also study the context of journalism within society.

This degree can be tailored to your interests and career goals. Subjects include broadcast journalism, data journalism, magazine journalism, visual storytelling, or international, business, fashion or sports journalism. You'll have the opportunity to produce your own live digital and print publications. Core subjects include news production, video, layout, ethics and media law. There's also the opportunity to pursue a research project and to study abroad at one of our partner universities.

The philosophy of the Environmental Management MSc programmes centres on the need for new environmental professionals: people with a strong cross-disciplinary understanding of the societal, economic, and environmental challenges posed by the emerging sustainable environmental management agenda.

The course aims to provide you with the in-depth knowledge and the essential practical and evaluative skills needed to give leadership for low carbon, resource efficient, sustainable futures in diverse global contexts. The final masters award title will be reflected by your chosen pathway:

• Environmental Management MSc – this core pathway explores the rationale behind the exploitation of natural environments. It provides you with detailed knowledge and understanding of the important relationships between sustainable environmental management and natural ecosystems and the value of adopting an integrated approach to studying both.
• Environmental Management (Energy) MSc – this pathway is timely, nationally and internationally relevant, given the world's energy needs, as well as the surrounding political debates regarding fossil fuels and increasingly, renewables, which form such an essential component of the world's existence.

Our Criminology MA will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the complex nature of crime, harm and victimisation, together with an appreciation of the role of criminal justice systems in relation to crime control, protection and the delivery of justice.

This course will develop your critical thinking skills whilst also providing you with the tools to undertake rigorous, high quality criminological research. Through a theoretical and applied lens, you will gain a broad understanding of criminological issues and debates. For example, you will question why particular behaviours and populations are criminalised and you will challenge local and global responses to crime. You will develop a range of transferable skills sought after by employers in the field.

This course is designed for those who have a social science, socio-legal or policy studies background and who want to develop their knowledge further. The course is open to those who have a good undergraduate degree in a relevant area, and, or, to those whose background is characterised by practitioner experience at an appropriate level in a relevant field.

This course focuses on literature that explores the limits of human experience and contravenes cultural boundaries. You will consider how writing has been a catalyst for social and political change.

You will develop your understanding of literary and theoretical texts and sharpen your skills of literary research, writing and analysis.

Option modules enable you to examine a range of contentious issues across historical periods and
genres. Through a 15,000 word dissertation, you will research a subject of your choice, with support and supervision from a specialist member of staff.

Are you a budding novelist, Netflix screenwriter or experimental poet? On this degree, you'll learn the art and craft of writing in all its forms. Taught by published authors, you'll gain a wide range of skills across creative and non-fiction genres. The aim of the User Experience Design MSc course is to equip you with the behavioural theory, design practice and technology know-how that is necessary for a career as interaction designer, usability engineer, user researcher, or head of user experience. It focuses upon the analysis, design, prototyping and evaluation of multimedia, multi-modal, and multi-platform user interfaces that are easy to use and support a great user experience.

Each taught module guides students through a UX project – to optimise an interaction, to innovate a digital lifestyle, to create a persuasive product, and to collaborate on the development of virtual reality. Each project provides opportunities to analyse, design, prototype and evaluate cutting-edge technologies, follow industry trends and apply contemporary theories. A final "capstone" project completes the student's portfolio.

This course was developed in consultation with our industry panel, which includes Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, DreamWorks and Samsung Design Europe. Kingston University is an active member of TIGA, the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA) and supports the User Experience Professionals' Association (UXPA UK).

This course, one of a suite of digital media courses, enables you to study professional digital media practice in a microstudio environment with a focus on the programming skills necessary for the field of games development. Through a student-centred project-based curriculum, you will work as a games programmer to develop your specialist skills while working as part of an interdisciplinary team with students from across the full programme.

This course focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing the concrete industry in meeting the demands of sustainability. You will examine concrete technology, sustainable construction, earthquake engineering, steel and concrete building design, fire assessment, geo-environmental engineering and construction management. You will take part in practical work, group work, case studies and presentations. Experts at leading civil engineering and construction companies contribute to the course. For your dissertation, you may choose an industry-relevant project to research.
