This course will you provide with an understanding of the forces of global politics and develop the skills you need to actively engage in the academic and professional discussions that are shaping the contemporary international agenda. With a particular focus on current events, it strikes a careful balance between theoretical study and practical elements of international relations.

This course draws on both theory and the practical application of academic research to the real world, though case studies and exploration of varying theories related to international relations. There is a strong focus on the transferral of ideas to real life, through workshops, games and simulations.

You can specialise in the subfields of international political economy, conflict or security and human rights: the flexible choice of option modules enables you to tailor the course to your interests.

Lively discussion is encouraged, and you'll be able to attend lectures with visiting speakers, leading academics and figures from human rights and international organisations.

This course focuses on the challenges and opportunities facing the concrete industry in meeting the demands of sustainability. You will examine concrete technology, sustainable construction, earthquake engineering, steel and concrete building design, fire assessment, geo-environmental engineering and construction management. You will take part in practical work, group work, case studies and presentations. Experts at leading civil engineering and construction companies contribute to the course. For your dissertation, you may choose an industry-relevant project to research.

This course explores current trends in chemical, biological and biotechnological therapeutics and examines the latest technologies in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain an understanding of processes used in clinical trials and in the development, manufacture and regulation of medicines. Through an independent research project, you will study an area of interest in depth. Examples of projects include: medicinal chemistry (eg. synthesis of anti-cancer compounds and natural products), pharmaceutical technology (eg. optimisation of tablet manufacture and formulation), and clinical pharmacy (eg. pharmacovigilance, clinical trial and medicines regulations).

This course, one of a suite of digital media courses, enables you to study professional digital media practice in a microstudio environment with a focus on the design skills necessary for the field of games development. Through a student-centred, project-based curriculum, you will work as a games designer to develop your specialist skills while working as part of an interdisciplinary team with students from across the full programme.

Chemical analysis plays a role in virtually all aspects of everyday life throughout the world. With analytical techniques and instrumentation becoming evermore sophisticated, there is an increasing demand for qualified analytical chemists. This industrially relevant course will provide you with a strong background in the theory of analytical techniques and give you the ability to apply these techniques to complex analytical problems.

You will study good measurement and scientific practice and the evaluation and interpretation of data. You will also develop skills to prepare you for your career, including problem solving, organisation, data collation, review and synopsis, time management and teamwork. This course is an ideal preparation for a career in public health nutrition and the food industry. You'll have the opportunity to study abroad and gain a career head start through a year's industrial placement.

This course examines food science, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, immunology and microbiology. You'll study contemporary topics in nutrition such as genetic modification, fortification and supplementation and nutraceuticals. You'll also look at nutrition's links to health and disease, in both developed and developing countries.

Through an independent project, you'll be able to research a subject of interest (such as public health and clinical nutrition, food science and the role of specific compounds in food).

This course offers key skills in pharmaceutical analysis, including measurement, scientific practice, evaluation and interpretation of data. You will study recent trends in analytical science and techniques and be introduced to pharmaceutical technologies, such as formulations and clinical pharmacokinetics. Through your research project, you will develop valuable research skills. Past projects have examined areas such as determining caffeine and its metabolites in human serum samples using GC-MS, and synthesis and use of compounds as probes for biochemical reactions.
