Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. Often known as the science of uncertainty, statistics is of vital importance in modern society where almost all sectors rely on the collection, analysis and interpretation of data. There is a great shortage of well qualified statisticians, data analysts and statistical consultants across the sector and this course has been specifically designed to meet that demand.

Applied statistics involves putting theory into practice - not only summarising and describing data, but extrapolating from it to draw conclusions about the population being studied. This is an applied, practically-orientated course that gives you advanced knowledge of statistical methods and the theory that underpins these methods. With a strong emphasis on relating theory to practice, you will develop your analytical, logical, numerical and problem-solving, skills that are in such high demand with employers.

Middlesex is one of only four institutions in the UK which has been approved as a mirror for the statistical programming language R – meaning you will have access to software used in the industry. You'll also learn how to use standard statistical software like SPSS and Minitab.

You'll have the freedom to choose the type of independent research project you do which can take the form of a theoretical dissertation, a survey or a more practical project involving a data set. If you're working, you'll have the option of basing your project at your workplace – making your studies even more relevant and beneficial for both you and your employer.

Studying BSc Mathematics with us will open a lot of career doors, whether you want to pursue the subject professionally or join an industry that’s looking for your skills. You can also add a fourth year to your studies and pursue an MMath qualification.

You’ll study a combination of traditional maths alongside modern topics like communicating maths. Lectures will introduce theory while workshop and lab study will develop your ability to apply it in practical settings.

You’ll be taught in highly interactive groups that’ll allow you to explore problems and find solutions in a supportive environment. A series called 'Engaging with Mathematics' brings in professionals to talk to students about possible careers, opportunities available, and all the wonderful ways maths can be applied outside the classroom.

Apply your theoretical knowledge

• Learning to apply your maths skills in the real world throughout your studies will prepare you for the world of work. One way you’ll do this is by joining staff in different outreach events that bring maths to the general public. In recent years these have included the award-winning SMASHFest and the Skills Show in Birmingham NEC.
• Our Problem Solving Methods and Communicating Mathematics modules engage with real-world problems that graduate mathematicians are likely to face. You’ll also get the option to take a year-long placement between the second and third years to further enhance your skills and explore professional interests.
• Previous graduates have gone on to study MSc Mathematics at Russell Group universities and pursue other specialist masters. Graduates from this course went on to work in law, accounting, finance, and as mathematicians. A mathematics degree equips you with a whole host of transferable skills that employers find desirable in today’s world of work.

You will enrol on a four-year course which includes the one-year foundation year. The number of students who progress to degree study is very high. The Foundation Year in Performing Arts is taught in our excellent studios and facilities at our Hendon campus by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses. You are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures.

Interior design courses are rapidly growing in demand. Interior design is a vital part of our everyday environment, from office lobbies and restaurants to hotels and government buildings. Our course aims to equip you with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you’ll need to start your career in interior design. You’ll learn all about different interior styles, what is meant by ‘placemaking’, challenge your creativity, and explore the diverse interdisciplinary nature of the subject.

In addition to the three-year full-time course, you can also choose a four-year sandwich option. This pathway incorporates a one-year professional placement recognised by a dedicated Advanced Diploma in Professional Practice: Interior Architecture & Design, which you’ll receive at graduation.

Develop your interior design skills with us

• Our course is based on integrated design projects to get you thinking and working like an interior designer. You’ll be challenged to apply and demonstrate various elements of your learning. Tasks have been designed to help you develop your creativity and originality while interacting with different ideas, just like you would at work. You'll use virtual reality technology to present your ideas, becoming proficient in its use.
• An interior design degree can open a lot of career doors. Past graduates have gone on to work in interior design practices, specialist studios and consultancies, advisory agencies, and commercial organisations. Some of the graduate career destinations include prestigious companies like Patterson Fenton-Jones, Fox Linton Associates Ltd, and Dalziel and Pow, to name just a few.

Not all nutrition courses take a holistic approach to the subject. Our BSc Nutrition programme is interdisciplinary in its approach, exploring the link between diet, health, disease and performance. As nutritionists play a key role in creating and translating research into nutritional advice and policies, you’ll learn all about how the human body uses nutrients and the effects this has on health.

Beyond theoretical knowledge, our course will advance your employability by developing skills like communication, numeracy, research, team working, creative thinking, and more. Your new skills will be relevant in a variety of careers, especially dietician, nutritional therapist, and science writer. If you’d like to focus on nutrition directly after graduation you’ll have the chance to work as a nutritional advisor, food scientist, heath trainer, or sports nutritionist.

Learn to apply your skills

• Our course offers you the unique opportunity to undertake a 12-month placement in your third year before returning for a final year of study subject to availability in light of the Covid 19 pandemic. Completing the placement will mean you graduate with a BSc Nutrition (Professional Practice) degree, which highlights the additional practical skills you’ve gained to prospective employers. You’ll get plenty of support from our Employability Advisors, who’ll ensure you secure a placement that closely matches your interests.
• Members of the Nutrition Society have the option of taking advantage of its internship programme. Other potential placement opportunities include Unilever, GSK, sports clubs, NHS Primary Care Trusts, and Nestle.
• During your studies, you’ll use innovative technology to enhance your learning. You’ll be taught with a mixture of seminars, group and individual tutorials, and through laboratory classes to help you gain theoretical and practical knowledge of nutrition.

This complex discipline, with elements of IT, logistics and procurement, is increasingly important in today's globalised environment of interconnected networks.

In recent decades, organisations have become increasingly reliant on effective supply chains in order to compete in the global market. This course equips you with a global view of the strategic and operational processes you need to manage the key functions of these supply chain processes, including transportation, warehousing, inventory management and production planning. MA Interiors (Architecture & Design) encourages creative investigation, experimentation and innovation in order to extend your knowledge and skills in the creation of new environments. The potential of the ‘interior’ is explored across a range of contemporary contexts, through field research and interpretation, studio and online workshops, media practices, critical analysis and design. On the course you will develop your individual practice and approach to the design of interior spaces and places.

As public, political and commercial concern grows with the future suitability and sustainability of our urban environments, the need for inspired and innovative leadership in the re-imagining, re-use and transformation of our existing buildings and interiors becomes ever more urgent. This course is structured to allow you to identify and explore your own particular interests within interiors, enabling you to investigate examples of conceptual and spatial manifestation and application.

You will generate propositions to test, demonstrate and explain your approach, and to develop in-depth strategies by which your ideas and proposals can be implemented. You will challenge and redefine what constitutes the 'interior' through experimental learning, prototyping, designing, critical analysis, and narrative techniques. You will gain the relevant contemporary knowledge, advanced design skills and subject insights to develop, consolidate, apply and promote a personal design practice that can meet the tests and challenges of tomorrow.

Telecommunications engineering is a combination of electrical engineering and computer science. It covers the design, installation and maintenance of networks and equipment, allowing for the interconnectivity of devices and people. It's one of the world's most rapidly developing industries and this course has been designed to meet the growing demand for skilled graduates.

This course provides a thorough understanding of modern and future communication systems and offers the opportunity to develop relevant practical and theoretical knowledge necessary to be at the forefront of the rapidly evolving telecommunications sector where the demand for skilled graduates is very high.

Our strong links with industry have allowed us to develop a practically focused course, which is essential to the needs of the rapidly changing telecommunications industry. We work with companies such as Microsoft and Siemens, and we are a Cisco local academy – meaning you will have access to the latest equipment, and can make use of specialist teaching materials and workshops. The department is very active in cutting-edge research and you will be encouraged to learn, explore and work within our award-winning technology centre and telecoms laboratories. The labs are equipped with specialist hardware from National Instruments (NI), including the industry standard NI- USRP reconfigurable radio platform, and software such as MATLAB & Simulink, Cisco Packet Tracer, Riverbed Modeller, and EDX Signal Pro. Access to campus-based facilities will depend on Covid-19 related restrictions in place at the time. In some instances remote access to campus facilities or equivalent online facilities may be used instead.

If you're not already in work, you'll have the option of doing a placement for up to 12 weeks, during which you'll work on your independent final project. We are very closely linked to our alumni students who have been employed in the UK and abroad with companies like BT, Amelco Ltd, Alcatel-Lucent, ZS Associates, Symphony Teleca, and F5 Networks. Placements will be dependent on employer availability taking into account any Covid-19 related restrictions.
