Our multi-disciplinary biomedical engineering course mixes engineering with biomedical science and physiology. This provides you with a solid understanding of the technological developments taking place in the fields of medical engineering and bioengineering.

You will build on your previous experience in applied mathematics, physics, or other sciences. During your course you will enhance your engineering knowledge and gain specialist skills which will help you to design and improve existing and emergent systems, devices and treatments.

Our degree has been specifically designed to meet the standards set by the collaboration between the UK Quality Assurance Agency and the Engineering Council alongside the demands of healthcare providers. You’ll gain specialist biomedical engineering skills to follow in the footsteps of graduates who’ve forged careers in clinical engineering, biomechanics, orthotics and prosthetics.This course will cover the engineering design principles and engineering fundamentals such as mechanics and electronics and the mathematics that support them. You will learn about anatomy and physiology, and learn to interpret, analyse and critically evaluate experimental results to improve technology, as well as the instrumentation to diagnose and treat disease and disability.

Develop your biomedical engineering skills

We have fully equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories for medical device design and human performance measurement. You will also have access to the facilities in ourbioengineering and physics research laboratories. It is here that we’re making significant healthcare developments, which include the monitoring of premature babies, deep brain stimulation and the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

You can gain valuable professional experience – and receive a Diploma of Employability Studies – by taking a work placement with the NHS or one of our industrial partners between years two and three.

If you are applying for our four-year MEng biomedical engineering degree, you will not only be able to gain an integrated masters qualification once you’ve completed the fourth year of the degree, you will also be able to receive student loan funding to cover your course fees.  Continuation on the MEng degree is subject to you achieving a good academic profile in years one and two.

Biomedical engineering studies gives you the ultimate stepping-stone to a number of global career opportunities in a rapidly expanding field. You will graduate from our course with career options in a variety of sections, including  clinical or rehabilitation engineering, bioinstrumentation, biomaterials, biomechanics, and medical imaging.

You will learn the principles of the English legal system, and gain reflection through social, political, economic, ethical and historical perspectives. You will also build a range of transferable skills, including abstract thinking and problem solving, that will allow you to prepare practically as well as academically for a successful legal career.

In light of COVID19 and the need to prioritise a safe academic community, we shall be offering a blended learning model that will involve online teaching and learning delivered by our expert academics, until it is safe to start face-to-face teaching. All such decisions will be made in line with Government advice.

Build your hands-on experience while developing your legal skills

• After you have completed your year one modules, you will have the option to transfer to year two of the LLB, which, on completion will lead to the academic and vocational training required to become a fully qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales.
• You will have use of original council chambers in Hendon Town Hall, featuring a judge's bench and public gallery for mooting and lectures.
• Work-based and skills-based modules will allow you to gain practical, hands-on experience, and employability skills in both legal and non-legal environments.
• You will get plenty of support from tutors, including highly trained solicitors and barristers who bring vast experience in a variety of legal settings to help shape your studies and enhance your areas of interest and expertise.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA International Politics, Economics and Law

Our course will give you a broad understanding of international political systems, economics and international law while enabling you to carefully consider the ever-evolving international context for maximum relevance.

You’ll learn the different international legal, political, and economic perspectives to enhance your critical and analytical ability, and develop your policy analysis skills. The course offers a active role play base learning, including an interactive UN role play event addressing the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goal. You will have the opportunity for small group teaching with opportunities for students to have maximum engagement with staff.

You will enrol on a four-year course which includes the one-year foundation year. The number of students who progress to degree study is very high. The Foundation Year in Performing Arts is taught in our excellent studios and facilities at our Hendon campus by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses. You are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures.

You can integrate a work placement into your studies with a 36-week sandwich placement as part of a 4-year degree, or two 18-week summer placements as part of a 3-year degree.

Clinical biochemistry is the study of the chemistry of the human body and how it is affected by disease. It's a fascinating subject which combines expert theoretical knowledge with practical skills to help with the diagnosis and treatment of everything from endocrine disorders to antenatal complications. Whether you're working in a hospital laboratory or researching new treatments, you'll be doing vital, rewarding work which will improve and very often save lives.

This course is designed to enable you to build up strong laboratory and diagnostic skills. This is built around a practical element, with an emphasis on developing these skills. Where possible, you will be able to study and learn without the University's specialist laboratories. This will be augmented through the use of sophisticated virtual laboratory simulation. Subject to any restrictions as a result of COVID-19, you'll also learn how to use cutting-edge equipment such as MALDI-TOF mass spectrometers and flow cytometers.

The Biomedical Science courses at Middlesex have a burgeoning international reputation and the University's strong links with London hospitals, NHS laboratories and other universities and industrial partners ensures that you will be studying the latest developments, practices and research. MA Interiors (Architecture & Design) encourages creative investigation, experimentation and innovation in order to extend your knowledge and skills in the creation of new environments. The potential of the ‘interior’ is explored across a range of contemporary contexts, through field research and interpretation, studio and online workshops, media practices, critical analysis and design. On the course you will develop your individual practice and approach to the design of interior spaces and places.

As public, political and commercial concern grows with the future suitability and sustainability of our urban environments, the need for inspired and innovative leadership in the re-imagining, re-use and transformation of our existing buildings and interiors becomes ever more urgent. This course is structured to allow you to identify and explore your own particular interests within interiors, enabling you to investigate examples of conceptual and spatial manifestation and application.

You will generate propositions to test, demonstrate and explain your approach, and to develop in-depth strategies by which your ideas and proposals can be implemented. You will challenge and redefine what constitutes the 'interior' through experimental learning, prototyping, designing, critical analysis, and narrative techniques. Hospitality and tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors globally and events management is a dynamic growth area characterised by innovation and providing business opportunities at various scales. The  UK events industry alone is worth £42 billion and inbound business visits to Britain equate to 23.5% of all visits. Along with a predicted shortfall of personnel in the industry, especially at management level, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to thrive.

This course combines specialist knowledge with the context of tourism in the global economy and provides a range of contemporary options taught by staff with recent practical experience in the industry. You will gain direct experience of the sector through the practicum module and enterprise module.

This midwifery degree takes place in our partner NHS hospitals, including London’s leading maternity units. Because the course has been developed in partnership with local NHS trusts, we’re able to offer you placements on different maternity wards. Your time studying will be equally dedicated to theory and practice.

All our teaching staff have professional career experience as midwives while many are actively involved in practice in the UK and overseas. You’ll study key modules including anatomy, physiology/pathophysiology, cultural and psychosocial issues, plus many more, to meet Nursing and Midwifery Council standards for proficiency for midwifery.

You’ll have access to state-of-the-art facilities during your studies. These include a midwifery skills lab, housed in a separate building, where a range of high-fidelity simulations are set up in areas like resuscitation and dealing with complex care needs.

Once you graduate, you’ll have a lot of career opportunities available. Your skills will be in high demand in settings like the labour and antenatal wards, private practices, as well as within communities, local clinics, and GP surgeries.

How you’ll practice your skills

• Our degree will ensure you get extensive practice while you study. Clinical practice weeks will require you to work shifts and experience the 24-hour, seven-day care to develop your understanding of women’s and babies’ needs throughout a 24-hour period. Your caseload will be purposefully small so you’re able to practice proficiency and continuity while being supported by a mentor.
• Your degree will be made up of 50% practice, and many of our graduates get their first job in their placement locations. Practice hospitals include Whittington Hospital, North Middlesex Hospital, and Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
• This course is accredited by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to meet the highest standard of healthcare training. You’ll gain the status of a registered midwife when you graduate.
