Project work will feature as part of your study from the first year to help you learn to communicate your ideas. You’ll do this through a series of problem-solving tasks in branding, typography, magazine design, editorial design, advertising, art direction, and plenty more. Through two compulsory modules you will focus on Strategic Management and, Leadership and Management Development. Cardiac physiologists record and analyse physiological data to diagnose and treat cardiac disease. They play an essential role in healthcare, saving many lives and improving many more. Cardiac physiologists in hospitals deal with patients first-hand, meaning they need not only highly specialised knowledge and excellent analytical abilities but good people skills.

Our biomedical and biological science courses have a burgeoning international reputation, due to our world-class research in areas including biomarkers, public health and biomodelling. The university is home to the Centre for Investigative and Diagnostic Oncology, which has pioneered techniques for cancer diagnosis and treatment, including our breakthrough in the development of a vaccine for bladder cancer.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. BA Criminology (Criminal Justice)

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. International politics has never been so relevant to our daily lives, which means our international politics degree will open up opportunities in all areas of this diverse and dynamic field – from public service and international relations to regional organisations, NGOs, diplomacy, the media, and everything in between.

During your BA in politics, you’ll study the key themes, concepts and theories related to international politics, and gain a solid understanding of contemporary international and global issues, political processes and systems through policy analysis, role playing, masterclasses and interactive debates. Covering the fundamental aspects of international politics, you’ll enhance your critical and analytical skills, and learn the different theoretical perspectives and their relevance to global geopolitical and economic developments to enhance your understanding of international relations and global politics.

This course provides both intensive practical training and a profound theoretical education, extending beyond the technicalities of network security to cover strategic and organisational issues. During your studies, you will work with our LTE test bed and Blade Server, and you will learn how to access and configure cloud-based networks.

You will be encouraged to learn, explore and work within our award-winning technology centre and its five specialist laboratories equipped with the latest industry-standard hardware and software, including OPNET, Wireshark, MATLAB, Simulink, OpNet Modeller 17.0, OMNeT++ , NI and Cisco technology such as Packet Tracer. Depending on the Covid-19 related restrictions in place at the time, the teaching may take place either online with remote/virtual access to specialised hardware equipment and industry standard software or on campus following the required restrictions.

Practical work is an important part of every module, and unless you're already in employment, we'll encourage and support you to finding a placement for up to 12 weeks, during which you'll work on your independent research project. Access to placements will be dependent on individual employer organisations and any Covid-19 restrictions they may have in place.

Our strong research profile ensures our courses remain innovative. We have developed our own WSN, Senso LAB, and have also undertaken notable research in areas such as MIMO, LTE and LTE Advanced

The course is designed for those students who have previously studied computing at university level or who are currently working in the sector, and are looking to develop an advanced mastery of the subject.

Our sociology BA teaches you essential hands-on skills while you develop the research ability and theoretical knowledge that allows you to understand the effects of social issues on society. This degree allows you to combine the study of criminology with modern scientific methods of psychology so you can gain an understanding of criminal behaviours and their effects.

Develop your understanding of criminal behaviour
During the course, when possible, you’ll learn in our award-winning Hatchcroft Building which includes the state-of-the-art facilities you would expect, including psycho-physiology, observation, and virtual reality laboratories. Even in eventualities where we are unable to be in the laboratory or classroom together, we aim to use virtual tools to help you develop key practical skills.

You’ll build up a range of skills by examining theoretical and scientific approaches to criminology, human behaviour, and psychology. You’ll also gain understanding of the psychological issues associated with criminal behaviour and the treatment of people who have committed criminal offences.

During your degree, you’ll take part in work placements with forensic psychologists, police forces, prisons and hospitals so you can build up a portfolio of professional experience. You can expect to engage in activities like running anger management courses for prisoners, while you also perform clinical research in areas such as eating disorders and autism, among others.
