Our architectural technology degree combines architecture, civil engineering, services engineering, environmental science and building information modelling to give you the insight, skills and experience to succeed in the most heavily demanded areas of construction.

Gaining first-hand experience of transforming conceptual designs and drawings into practical building projects, you’ll get to grips with the latest technologies, industry software and Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques. Access to on-campus facilities will be dependent on any Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time.

You’ll also learn new methodologies, develop your creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills, and have the chance to work on real-life projects – in the UK and abroad – to gain a broad understanding of the full project management process. Opportunities will be dependent on access arrangements taking into account any Covid-19 related restrictions at the time.

You’ll graduate with the skills to enter a diverse range of roles in both the private and public sectors of construction. Our graduates have gone on to become BIM managers, lead designers, information managers, project managers and consultants – and some have even set up their own architectural design practices.

Build your architectural skills

• You’ll have the opportunity to build your professional portfolio by taking part in some of the industry’s most prestigious events and competitions – both in the UK and internationally (taking into account any Covid-19 related restrictions). You’ll also get to showcase your work to industry professionals in our final year degree show.
• You’ll get one-on-one support throughout your studies, and our series of guest lecturers also gives you access to some of the industry’s most influential professionals.
• You’ll collaborate with us to put your new skills into practice through real-world construction and infrastructure projects. Our students are currently leading the way on our MDX Pavilion: a major new project to create a sustainably-designed learning, event, community and well-being space on our campus.
• We’ll give you the flexibility to study over three years (full-time), four years (with a paid, year-long work placement), or six years (part-time). You’ll also be able to get a bursary worth up to 50% if you decide to continue your studies with our MSc BIMM course.

During the foundation year you will learn how computers are used by a broad range of people and organisations as well as acquiring fundamental software development skills and knowledge of hardware. You also gain relevant mathematical and statistical skills and develop useful communication skills.

BEng Electronic Engineering

In today’s technically advancing world, our hands-on approach will put you at the forefront of the next generation of electronic engineers, where you will have a significant impact on modern life.

Our degree gives you the specialist skills, knowledge and practical experience you need to achieve your career ambitions, enabling you to design the electronic systems that shape the way we live. You’ll gain a broad understanding of both digital and analogue electronic systems. You’ll also enhance your problem-solving ability and learn to use professional methods and software to build complex electronic circuits and systems.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto one of our three-year degree courses in these subject areas. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Sociology with Psychology

Our BA Sociology with Psychology lets you study two social sciences that naturally complement each other. You'll get a well-rounded understanding of the major concepts and themes in both contemporary sociology and psychology – and how they relate to everyday life.

Through a range of teaching methods, you’ll learn to analyse both macro and micro information, developing the skills needed to transform your findings into concrete, confident arguments. You’ll also enhance your research ability and gain valuable professional experience through a range of hands-on opportunities and work placements.

Our information systems degree gives you the skills, experience and expertise you need to succeed in the computer-based sector – and beyond. You’ll get to grips with the specialist equipment, systems and technologies that will give you the experience, expertise and confidence to apply your skills. Our degree will prepare you for career paths that range from organisational management and systems architects to chief information officers and enterprise architects.

This is an interdisciplinary course meaning the content's structured in ways that map explicitly to modern technology, including systems design, application development, client-side programming, and much more.

Build your information systems skills

• You’ll have the opportunity to take a year-long, paid work experience placement as part of a four-year study path (subject to securing an organisation that is able to support such a placement during the COVID-19 pandemic). We’ll also give you industry professionals and work experience opportunities to help you further develop your professional skills and network. In the past, our students have taken part in Sky's hackathon which tested their knowledge and team-working skills.
• We’re in the process of gaining BCS (British Computer Society) accreditation for our computer science degrees, which means you’ll be able to gain BCS membership once it’s awarded.

Build your electronic engineering skills
Electronic engineering has a visible impact on modern life - from smartphones to smart cars, and everything in between. You will design and build complex electronic circuits and systems-on-a-chip using a range of methods and software tools, applying a systems engineering approach to problem-solving, opening up career opportunities wherever automation is involved.

Led by our team of industry experts in high-tech labs, you’ll learn the specialist skills you need to succeed in a variety of roles that range from wireless and digital design and network design to network planning, mobile internet applications and services development.

• There are two honours degree programmes available for each area of study – a three-year Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) and a four-year Master of Engineering (MEng).
• Both degrees share a common first year, but due to the advanced nature of the MEng programme students must demonstrate they have the high-level knowledge and skills required at the end of year 2 and 3 to progress on the programme.
• You must apply direct to either the BEng or the MEng, but you can also choose to change programme. You must apply for the MEng in Year 1 if you want to guarantee your student loan will cover the fourth year of fees.

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. We strongly encourage you to develop your employability skills throughout the course and this is often built into the modules from the start. These skills, sometimes referred to as soft skills, include reflection, professional development and team work.

You’ll receive a Placement Planning Pack to help with structuring and planning for work experience, ensuring you get the most out of it. Additionally, you’ll undertake a practitioner-based module, set within a workplace, and build a digital portfolio that showcases the development of your knowledge and skills throughout the course. The course’s timetable is specifically arranged to give you the opportunity to arrange voluntary or paid work experience, or shorter placements. Typically, graduates go on to careers in educational settings, training programmes, and charities. It's also a route into a teaching role through a Primary or Senior PGCE.

Essential to all organisations, whether they are in the private, public or voluntary sector, are staff who have an understanding of processes, logistics, efficiency and people management. Combining both a theoretical understanding of the techniques of management and an engagement with concepts in management practice, this course offers a holistic approach to your develop in this exciting field, with an emphasis on management analysis.
