Our BA Photography course will help you make the most of your creative vision and encourage you to develop your own personal approach.

You will be given the tools, opportunities and inspiration to explore the world we live in now, investigating photography’s role in the communication of ideas, opinion, comment, reportage, analysis and meaning through your own work and through debate. You can focus on editorial photography, portraiture, studio and fashion photography for magazines, books, exhibitions and new media, as well as carry out more investigative, reflective and conceptual work.

Build your photography skills
Online demonstrations will introduce you to a number of technical skills, including both traditional and digital processes. Extensive campus facilities, when appropriate, include studios and darkrooms. There is an excellent online library provision. We have strong links with the industry in London, which means you will be able to make invaluable industry contacts too. At the end of your degree, you will the get a chance to show your work in either a dedicated exhibition in central London, or as a virtual exhibition online.

Our BA Sociology with Psychology lets you study two social sciences that naturally complement each other. You'll get a well-rounded understanding of the major concepts and themes in both contemporary sociology and psychology – and how they relate to everyday life.

You’ll have the option to extend your course by a year to spend your third year building the skills employers want as part of a paid work placement at a community organisation or NGO. Our academic advisers will also help you find your placement and give you the support you need to complete a winning application.

Our criminal justice degree approaches the subject from a theoretical, research-informed, and practice-based perspective. This means that during your time studying you’ll gain an understanding of the criminal justice system and the different career paths you might want to pursue after graduation. This could be joining the police or opting to work for support services and charities that focus on policy and reform.

During your studies, you’ll explore the problem of crime, its causes and consequences and to examine in-depth the workings and effectiveness of the criminal justice system. Our architectural technology degree combines architecture, civil engineering, services engineering, environmental science and building information modelling to give you the insight, skills and experience to succeed in the most heavily demanded areas of construction.

Gaining first-hand experience of transforming conceptual designs and drawings into practical building projects, you’ll get to grips with the latest technologies, industry software and Building Information Modelling (BIM) techniques. Access to on-campus facilities will be dependent on any Covid-19 restrictions in place at the time.

You’ll also learn new methodologies, develop your creativity, collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills, and have the chance to work on real-life projects – in the UK and abroad – to gain a broad understanding of the full project management process. You’ll graduate with the skills to enter a diverse range of roles in both the private and public sectors of construction. Our graduates have gone on to become BIM managers, lead designers, information managers, project managers and consultants – and some have even set up their own architectural design practices.

You’ll also get to showcase your work to industry professionals in our final year degree show.

• You’ll collaborate with us to put your new skills into practice through real-world construction and infrastructure projects. Our students are currently leading the way on our MDX Pavilion: a major new project to create a sustainably-designed learning, event, community and well-being space on our campus.
• We’ll give you the flexibility to study over three years (full-time), four years (with a paid, year-long work placement), or six years (part-time). You’ll also be able to get a bursary worth up to 50% if you decide to continue your studies with our MSc BIMM course.

This course has been designed with your future in mind. Your learning will be split equally between fashion and textile design and production so that you’ll graduate with a wide array of skills, opening up vast and varied employment opportunities across both fashion and textiles. Students will have the opportunity to learn skills across knit, weave, print, embroidery and embellishment, as well as learning to pattern cut and construct garments, producing fashion collections incorporating their own textiles.

Led by a team of researchers, our biomedical science degree gives you the skills, techniques and hands-on experience you need to succeed in the field of biomedical science. If you’re looking for a fast-paced degree that gives you access to the next generation of scientific equipment and research, then our BSc Biomedical Science is for you.

Using real-life clinical laboratory challenges, you’ll develop your specialist knowledge and learn everything from microscopy and blood typing to DNA analysis, tissue identification and everything in between. You’ll learn from their experiences in science research, biomedical science and medicine – and their current on-campus research into  biomarkers, cancer treatment and rapid testing of infectious disease.

The Foundation Year in Business is taught by the same lecturing staff who teach on our degree courses and you are taught in small group seminars, workshops and lectures. You will be able to develop transferable skills in business, communication and problem-solving.

BA Business Management (Project Management)

The importance of marketing communication in delivering clear, consistent and competitive messages about an organisation and its products is crucial to organisational success. Rather than seeing marketing communications as creating favourable brand images merely in the eyes of consumers, the field has witnessed a renewed focus on the effects of communication on the multiple stakeholders' organisations address, including their employees and the media.

Across multiple sectors, the utilisation of multi-channel communication strategies is growing and with this so is demand for professionals with expertise in this exciting field. Reflecting this need for a more corporate perspective and strategic approach to communications this course, developed with industry experts, is designed for new graduates with a background in marketing, media, management and social sciences, and practitioners seeking career development. The course also has a strong emphasis on the application of theory to practice through activities such real-life case studies, problem-solving exercises and a residential week or a virtual industry based conference with industry professionals

The course focuses on three strands key to the field; ‘Strategic Analysis and Thinking’ enhances understanding of markets, and the application of critical and analytic methods in solving communications problems; ‘Execution’ develops skills around writing and presenting communications plans and advertising briefs; and ‘Tools, Media and Settings’ contextualises the use of both traditional and innovative modes of communication in different settings, whether social, national or global.

You enrol on a four-year course, which includes the one-year foundation course. If you complete this year successfully you progress directly onto our three-year media degree courses listed below. The number of students who progress to degree study are very high - in fact some of these students have gone on to become some of our most successful graduates.

BA Digital Media and Communications

Combining theoretical knowledge and practical skills, you gain skills in areas such as new media, video production, website design, culture and more. Practice-based work includes video production (following Government safety guidelines), web design and HTML programming, data visualisation and smart environments. Great emphasis is also given to the management and analysis of social media platforms, with APIs and other sources used to present and assess social data.

The MA Youth Justice, Community Safety and Applied Criminology degree is designed for people working or seeking to work in the area of crime and criminal justice. It offers a detailed understanding of contemporary issues facing professionals and managers in the criminal justice system and of the changing roles and responsibilities of the agencies and practitioners which make up that system.

Delivered by leading researchers and drawing on the expertise of those currently working in the field, this degree provides both traditional academic provision in the form of lectures, seminars and tutorials and the opportunity to undertake up to a third of the course via work-based learning (for those already working in appropriate contexts) or an internship with an agency such as a Youth Offending Team, a Drug and Alcohol Support Service or a Community Safety Partnership.

• The core elements of the programme are delivered on one evening per week so as to allow for those in work to attend. The remainder of the programme is made up by either studying optional modules available during the daytime or (in the case of one module) via distance learning or by a combination of a long or short dissertation and/or the long or short work-based learning or internship modules.
• This flexibility, both in the choice of content as well as in the mode of delivery/learning, allows students to tailor the course as much as possible to their own needs. This includes the option to study the programme over one year full-time or two years part-time.
