The central aim of our PPH program is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects. With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, history will be your major and you will study the other two as joint minors. In each year, you’ll study two courses in your major subject, and one course in each of the remaining two minor subjects.

The study of Art History gives you the opportunity to see and interpret moments in history through their architecture and material culture. The parameters of the Art History major at NCH have been set as widely as possible, from Europe to China, with a time span that extends from antiquity to the contemporary. The courses include cultural surveys as well as more intense media-specific subjects including architecture, landscape, painting and ceramics. The Economics minor enables you to understand and think rigorously about economic theory, and about the causes, consequences and implications of economic events, trends and ideas.

Develop wide-ranging analytical and quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world, combined with excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

Our Economics with English BSc (Hons) will help you develop wide-ranging analytical skills and apply them to a range of objects. Through your Economics major, you will develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Through studying works of literature and their cultural and economic contexts for your English courses, you will develop excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

With the Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (PPE – Economics) at NCH, you study Economics as your major, and will study Philosophy and Politics as joint minors. The English with Art History BA (Hons) will allow you to study the full range of artistic expression. You’ll take courses covering literature from 1550 to the present day, and you’ll explore forms of literature such as political speeches, the plays of Shakespeare, and responses to them.  For your Art History minor, you’ll study different forms of visual art in detail and their aesthetic and cultural contexts. These studies will allow you to make connections between art and the literature you study for your English major.

Explore world culture without geographical or temporal limits, from Europe to China and antiquity to the modern-day while developing an understanding of the social and cultural behaviours which underlie the development of art over time across the world. This innovative degree will develop your critical thinking and analytical skills, both in response to visual culture and human behaviours, giving you an edge in an ever-changing employment market.

The Psychology minor explores fundamental principles, concepts, and issues in the major areas of contemporary scientific psychology, which informs your study of Art History by allowing you to dive into the social and cultural behaviours which underlie the development of art over time across the world.

This innovative degree will allow you to develop your critical thinking, analysis and applied skills, both in response to visual culture and human behaviours, giving you an edge in an ever-changing employment market.

Develop the skills to analyse texts and arguments clearly, and with nuance and precision while studying classic texts from antiquity to the present day, which investigate the nature of the world and how we ought to interact with it.

The English with Philosophy BA (Hons) will allow you to develop the skills needed to analyse texts and arguments clearly, and with nuance and precision. In addition to taking period papers focusing on literature from 1550 to the present day, you’ll study rhetoric and stylistics. You will also study classic philosophical texts from antiquity to the present day, which investigate the nature of the world and how we ought to interact with it.
