The Art History with History BA will allow you to interpret moments of history as manifested in works of art. Both your major and your minor include surveys of historical periods and their cultures, which are then supplemented by media specific and period specific courses in Art History and History respectively. You’ll learn about painting, ceramics, architecture, and landscapes, alongside broader reflections on the nature of the historical discipline and its applications.

The Philosophy with Art History BA will help you bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art. Particularly of interest for you will be the third year philosophy course in Aesthetics – studying the philosophy of beauty and the philosophy of art, ranging from Plato’s claim that we should rid ourselves of all poets to Hegel and Arthur Danto’s assertion that art has ended. You will also, in your minor, study particular artistic media, such as painting, ceramics and architecture.

Analyse political institutions and their actions effectively gaining a deeper understanding of states, how they interact with each other, and the comparisons between them, as well as learning about the wider structures which influence human well-being and wealth. Develop the quantitative skills needed to engage with academic economics as commonly practised.

The Politics & International Relations with Economics BSc will equip you to analyse political institutions and their actions effectively. You will gain a deeper understanding of states, how they interact with each other, and the comparisons between them, as well as learning about the wider structures which influence human well-being and wealth. You will also develop the quantitative skills needed to engage with academic economics as commonly practised. You will take a course in political theory, and compare that with your knowledge of current political institutions and the real-life economic events and decisions which take place within them. 

The study of Art History gives you the opportunity to see and interpret moments in history through their architecture and material culture. The parameters of the Art History major at NCH have been set as widely as possible, from Europe to China, with a time span that extends from antiquity to the contemporary. The courses include cultural surveys as well as more intense media-specific subjects including architecture, landscape, painting and ceramics. The Economics minor enables you to understand and think rigorously about economic theory, and about the causes, consequences and implications of economic events, trends and ideas.

Our Economics with Politics & International Relations BSc (Hons) is designed to teach you how to think critically about how the world operates, with a particular focus on governments and political institutions within them. An advanced understanding of economics will give you key insights into political decision-making and policy. Through your major, you will develop quantitative skills to understand and evaluate economic events and decisions in the real world. This will be complemented by your study of political theory, the organisation of government, and international relations for your minor.

The single honours Law LLB allows you to go into extra depth in the study of law. In addition to the courses required for the Qualifying Law Degree, you will study Employment Law, and Legal Research and Advocacy, Commercial and Company Law. Through these courses, you will, amongst other things, learn how legal cases are constructed and presented in court, as well as discovering discrimination law and workers’ rights. With the Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (PPE – Economics) at NCH, you study Economics as your major, and will study Philosophy and Politics as joint minors. The central aim of our PPE program is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

This degree programme enables you to study Art History and Philosophy for your combined honours degree. The central aim of the Philosophy minor is to bring clarity and rigour to your thinking and to advance your understanding of, and ability to engage with, fundamental philosophical questions, arguments, theories and texts.

Examine the practice and applications of history, and compare political institutions of different countries, analysing their legitimacy to dictate over their subjects.
