Study political theory and political science examining governance, institution-building and decision-making while gaining thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths for which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable.

The study of Politics comprises political theory looking at normative questions, and political science looking at the organisation of government. International Relations examines governance, institution-building and decision-making through an analysis of historical phenomena, economic conditions, diplomatic relations, security and socio-cultural linkages among state and non-state sectors.
The Law minor aims to provide a thematic basis to academic legal studies which align to career paths that are attractive to alumni of the College, in particular, careers in which knowledge and understanding of corporate, commercial and employment matters are valuable; provide legal knowledge and skills.

The Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (Hons) at NCH offers three separate pathways to the degree. The Philosophy pathway enables you to study Philosophy as your major subject, comprising 50% of your undergraduate degree, alongside Politics and Economics as joint minors, each of which will form 25% of your degree studies.

The central aim of our Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (Hons) programme is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

You’ll develop the quantitative skills needed to interpret contemporary economics as practised, alongside the ability to analyse the theory behind both economic and historical study of the world.

Our Economics with English BSc (Hons) will help you develop wide-ranging analytical skills and apply them to a range of objects. Through your Economics major, you will develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Through studying works of literature and their cultural and economic contexts for your English courses, you will develop excellent communication skills highly valued by employers.

The Art History with Creative Writing BA (Hons) will allow you to study the full range of artistic expression and hone your writing skills. The programme combines cultural surveys with more intense, media-specific subjects including architecture, landscape and painting. Through your Creative Writing minor, you’ll develop the tools to approach a broad range of literary forms from a creative and critical perspective, from short fiction to immersive journalism, poetry, and scriptwriting.

Our English with Psychology BA (Hons) combines the study of English Literature and Psychology.

Combine the broad traditional coverage of traditional English degrees with distinctive features from the liberal arts tradition, such as language comparisons and literary criticism, through your English major. Complement these studies with your Psychology minor, which helps you develop an in-depth understanding of the biological, cognitive, and psychosocial factors underlying behaviours which will be reflected in personality dynamics and, ultimately, the work of an author or poet.

This combined honours degree will give you the critical thinking, analysis and social behaviour expertise highly prized in the evolving employment market.

Analyse political institutions and their actions effectively gaining a deeper understanding of states, how they interact with each other, and the comparisons between them, as well as learning about the wider structures which influence human well-being and wealth. The Politics & International Relations with Economics BSc will equip you to analyse political institutions and their actions effectively. You will gain a deeper understanding of states, how they interact with each other, and the comparisons between them, as well as learning about the wider structures which influence human well-being and wealth. You will also develop the quantitative skills needed to engage with academic economics as commonly practised. You will take a course in political theory, and compare that with your knowledge of current political institutions and the real-life economic events and decisions which take place within them. 

Analyse texts in both a creative and a technical manner and learn to compare different texts and other art forms, while engaging with the theoretical and applied nature of studying law, using your skills of language analysis to make precise arguments about the nature of different legal documents.

Studying the English with Law BA (Hons) will help you to analyse texts in both a creative and a technical manner. You will study rhetoric, stylistics, and learn to compare different texts and other art forms. You will engage with literary criticism, as well as well as studying literature from 1550 to the present day. You’ll complement these studies with the both theoretical and applied nature of studying law, in which you will use your skills of language analysis to make precise arguments about the nature of different legal documents.

The English with Art History BA (Hons) will allow you to study the full range of artistic expression. You’ll take courses covering literature from 1550 to the present day, and you’ll explore forms of literature such as political speeches, the plays of Shakespeare, and responses to them.  For your Art History minor, you’ll study different forms of visual art in detail and their aesthetic and cultural contexts. These studies will allow you to make connections between art and the literature you study for your English major.
