With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, you can choose one of Politics, Philosophy or History as your major, and will study the other two as joint minors. The central aim of our PPH programme is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

Develop your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively by exploring a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, while learning to write effectively in a diverse number of literary forms, from script-writing, immersive journalism, and short fiction to creative non-fiction.

Studying the History with Creative Writing BA (Hons), you will develop both your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively. You will explore a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, and take courses examining the historical discipline itself, and its practice and applications. You will also learn to write effectively in a diverse number of literary forms, from script-writing, immersive journalism, and short fiction to creative non-fiction.

This MA Philosophy is an excellent preparation for a PhD and a career in academia. Develop the quantitative skills needed to interpret contemporary economics, alongside the ability to analyse the theory behind both economic and historical study of the world

Our Economics with History BSc (Hons) teaches you about the structures which affect real-life decisions and events around the world, as well as gaining a rigorous knowledge of the historical contexts leading to those events. You’ll develop the quantitative skills needed to interpret contemporary economics as practised, alongside the ability to analyse the theory behind both economic and historical study of the world.

Study political theory and political science, while examining governance, institution-building, decision-making and socio-cultural linkages among state and non-state sectors, while learning to communicate your knowledge creatively and accurately to a wide range of audiences, in a diverse variety of forms.

The Politics & International Relations with Creative Writing BSc (Hons) will not only equip you with knowledge of political institutions and their interactions but also with the ability to communicate that knowledge creatively and accurately to a wide range of audiences, in a diverse variety of forms. You’ll compare the political institutions of different countries, analysing where they derive their legitimacy and how they interact with other institutions. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organizations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. In your Creative Writing minor, you will hone your craft by writing poetry, scripts, creative non-fiction, and immersive journalism, amongst other forms. 

Develop quantitative thinking skills and study the structures which affect real-life governance decisions around the world, while exploring the cognitive and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology which inform how the human brain functions and consider how social factors influence larger economic infrastructures.

Our Economics with Psychology BSc (Hons) will help you develop and apply wide-ranging analytical skills.

Through your Economics major, you will develop quantitative thinking skills and study the structures which affect real-life governance decisions around the world. Your Psychology minor will complement these studies by exploring the cognitive and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology which inform how the human brain functions and how social factors influence larger economic infrastructures.

This combined honours degree will give you the critical thinking and communication skills which are highly sought after in the graduate employment market, in public and private sectors such as policymaking, banking and finance and consulting.

The English with Data Science BA (Hons) will allow you to study the full range of artistic expression. You’ll take courses covering literature from 1550 to the present day, and you’ll explore forms of literature such as political speeches, the plays of Shakespeare, and responses to them.  For your Data Science minor, you’ll be able to analyse data and effectively extract useful information.

The English with Art History BA (Hons) will allow you to study the full range of artistic expression. You’ll take courses covering literature from 1550 to the present day, and you’ll explore forms of literature such as political speeches, the plays of Shakespeare, and responses to them.  For your Art History minor, you’ll study different forms of visual art in detail and their aesthetic and cultural contexts. These studies will allow you to make connections between art and the literature you study for your English major.

Engage with two of the major traditional methods of viewing the world, studying the practice and applications of the historical discipline itself and assessing historical views about the constitution of the world and how we ought to act within it.
