With the Philosophy, Politics & Economics BA (PPE – Economics) at NCH, you study Economics as your major, and will study Philosophy and Politics as joint minors. The central aim of our PPE program is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

Your Politics & International Relations with English BSc (Hons) will allow you to develop wide-ranging skills of analysis, which you will apply to government policies and literary and nonfiction texts. You’ll take a course in political theory, questioning not only how these organisations work, but also how thinkers have theorised they ought to work. The Philosophy with Art History BA will help you bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art. Particularly of interest for you will be the third year philosophy course in Aesthetics – studying the philosophy of beauty and the philosophy of art, ranging from Plato’s claim that we should rid ourselves of all poets to Hegel and Arthur Danto’s assertion that art has ended. You will also, in your minor, study particular artistic media, such as painting, ceramics and architecture.

Examine the organisation of government, questions of political science and institution-building with your Politics & IR major, while complementing these studies by exploring biological, cognitive, and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology.

The Politics with Psychology BSc (Hons) combines the study of Politics & International Relations with Psychology.
Your Psychology minor complements these studies by exploring biological, cognitive, and psychosocial areas of contemporary scientific psychology, leading to differences in social behaviours and attitudes and personality dynamics.

This innovative degree allows you to consider how the psychology of individuals shapes government, as well as how sociocultural links affect international relations. You will gain valuable skills in critical thinking, communication and the analysis of behaviour, which will prepare you for a range of careers in public and private sectors, such as policymaking, civil service, marketing and communications and consulting.

The Philosophy with Creative Writing BA (Hons) will teach you to write and analyse texts and arguments with clarity, rigour, and originality. The Philosophy major will give you the ability to engage with central questions, arguments, theories and texts concerning the world and our place within it. You’ll learn about the logic behind language and meaning, alongside studying topics such as ethics, metaphysics and aesthetics. The Creative Writing minor will enable you to express your philosophical judgements in a variety of forms, from short fiction to poetry to scriptwriting, as has been established practice in the history of philosophy. 

Develop your historical knowledge and your ability to communicate it effectively by exploring a broad range of historical periods from the Roman Empire through to present-day America in depth, while learning to effectively use databases, systems and analytical tools to generate insights and intelligence.
