With the Philosophy, Politics & History BA (Hons) at NCH, you can choose one of Politics, Philosophy or History as your major, and will study the other two as joint minors. The central aim of our PPH programme is to increase your understanding of, and ability to engage with, central questions, arguments, and texts in Philosophy, Politics and History, and to provide a lively sense of interrelations between these subjects.

The Politics & International Relations with History BSc (Hons) will provide a full understanding of how states work and have developed over time. The study of Art History gives you the opportunity to see and interpret moments in history through their architecture and material culture. The central aim of the Politics & International Relations minor is to enable you to understand and analyse the relationship between the individual and the state, and the sources of state authority and forms of government.

Through your Economics major, you will learn to develop quantitative skills and study the structures which affect real-life decisions around the world. Your Data Science minor will complement your major by training you to analyse data and effectively extract useful information.

The Philosophy with Art History BA will help you bring a clarity and rigour to your thinking about topics such as morality, metaphysics, and art. Particularly of interest for you will be the third year philosophy course in Aesthetics – studying the philosophy of beauty and the philosophy of art, ranging from Plato’s claim that we should rid ourselves of all poets to Hegel and Arthur Danto’s assertion that art has ended. You will also, in your minor, study particular artistic media, such as painting, ceramics and architecture.
