The MSc in Social Legal Studies presents an exciting opportunity to explore the role of law in society at a critical time in history - and cultivate a deep understanding of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of law and legal phenomena.

On the programme you will develop rigorous research skills and the ability to engage in broader social understanding, providing a sound basis to progress to a PhD or a career in socio-legal research through the study of different research methodologies across the social sciences and law.

The MSc has an emphasis on practical research training, on the ability to plan, research and write a sophisticated dissertation - and to think in broad theoretical terms about law in society.  In addition to presenting an ideal introduction to academic research, it also offers excellent preparation for working for NGOs and other organisations that works for legal or social change or within government.

Expertise in modern languages has never been more important as the UK forges a new relationship with its European partners and seeks to develop its trading and cultural ties throughout the world. With our dedicated teaching staff and our state-of-the-art Multimedia Centre, we offer an outstanding environment in which to study modern languages.

We offer a flexible degree in which you can choose to study one, two, or three modern European languages. If you are studying one or two languages, you may have the option in the second year to begin Arabic, Catalan, Czech, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, or an additional European language.

In the first year, you gain an introduction to the culture and history of the countries in which your languages are spoken. In subsequent years, you choose from a range of units. Units may include literature, linguistics, film and visual culture, gender studies and political and social history. You can also access extracurricular activities such as talks by visiting speakers, societies, language cafés, student newspapers, and talent shows.

You will spend the third year abroad as a teaching assistant, as a student at a partner university, or on a work placement. You can split your year between different countries, according to the languages you study.

Digital technologies (such as microcomputers, digital games, mobile devices, massive online open courses, artificial intelligence, robots, social media, big data, and virtual or tangible technologies) are increasingly becoming embedded in our societies and being used in both educational settings and our everyday learning. The Learning, Technology and Society pathway is designed for those who wish to take a critical perspective on the use of technology in diverse educational settings.

It is suitable for people with a variety of educational backgrounds and experiences, including teachers and lecturers, creative technologists and those who support informal learning settings such as museums and public spaces.

The pathway will provide you with a firm foundation for developing your career in teaching and facilitating learning in formal and informal settings, education leadership, research or learning technology. You will develop an in-depth understanding of sociotechnical change and a critical perspective on if and how digital technologies can support learning in a wide variety of settings. In addition, the pathway will prepare you to undertake further research in this rapidly developing field.

This course combines in-depth study of geography with interdisciplinary breadth, creative teamwork and entrepreneurial skills. Alongside your geography studies you will apply your subject knowledge by translating ideas into plans for digital and creative enterprises, both social and commercial.

The course will equip you to use the critical, theoretical and practical skills central to geography, developing your knowledge and skills across a range of areas.

This four-year MSci Physics course includes a year of gaining hands-on paid experience in the industry. A year spent in the industry can be a life-changing and rewarding experience. You will continue to study core physics via distance learning during your year in the industry in readiness for your final-year project or dissertation back at the University. Our students' final-year projects address questions at the frontier of our research fields and the most successful have been published in scientific journals.
