Our MSci Chemistry with Study Abroad in a Modern Language course is suited to you if you want to deepen your understanding of the subject and broaden your experience by studying chemistry in a foreign language during your third year.

The first two years are common to all of our degree courses. You will study fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in areas such as analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

You will also develop your ability to design experiments and interpret results and gain key skills through our chemistry-specific communications and mathematics units.

If you want to improve the world through the responsible use of data, the MSc in Data Science will give you the skills to do so. You will learn how to understand, in depth, the computational and statistical principles of modern data science and be skilled at the rigorous and ethical application of these techniques to real-world challenges.

Whether you have a background in numerate sciences, engineering, or computer science, the program will provide you with the skills to succeed in this exciting and fast-moving discipline and will equip you with excellent employment prospects to pursue roles in industry as either a data scientist or data engineer as well as for research and development roles.

This MSc aims to:

• Equip you with the ability to work across disciplinary boundaries in the effective application and deployment of data-intensive solutions in a variety of contexts.
• Give graduates a breadth and depth of knowledge and skills in computational, machine learning, and statistical principles and the capability for insightful large-scale data analysis, so you will be able to specify and implement analytical pipelines for real-world data at scale.
• Provide you with a good understanding of the ethical issues in the application of contemporary data science techniques to real-world challenges so you can be conversant with arguments concerning the risks and potential benefits and disadvantages arising from the deployment of these technologies.
• Enable you to independently initiate data science projects specified at a high-level perspective, leading them from scoping onward to completion, while exercising appropriate project management methods and maintaining stakeholder engagement.

The MSc in Data Science has been co-designed with industrial partners and is highly relevant to rewarding employment opportunities. There is a strong emphasis on responsible innovation and ethics to encourage you to use your knowledge and skills for societal good in the workplace or through further research. The course is closely associated with excellent research in the University, ensuring leading edge teaching. 

This course is ideal for students interested in learning more about how to use numbers and data within criminology. It provides training in practical and analytical skills, which will enhance your career prospects and provide you with a strong platform for postgraduate study. No prior knowledge of statistical techniques is required.

About two thirds of your studies will follow the single honours Criminology course. By drawing on social harm perspectives criminology at Bristol examines conventionally defined crimes along with other problem activities or behaviours that may not be criminalised but still cause extensive harm to individuals and society. This provides you with a critical and informed understanding of crime and the criminal justice system, as well as wider social and economic questions.

The remaining third of your course will provide interdisciplinary training in quantitative methods. In year one of the quantitative pathway we discuss how numbers and data are used to tell convincing stories in the media and social research. We consider what is meant by segregation and how it can be mapped and measured.

Year two offers practical classes in social statistics and applied data analysis, which will develop your skills in numeracy and analysis and enable you to undertake your own individual research project in an area of quantitative social science in year three.

This course allows you to combine subjects from the School of Economics and the School of Accounting and Finance with the benefit of one year abroad. 

The School of Accounting and Finance prepares you for a career in the accountancy profession or financial markets through access to subjects accredited by several professional accountancy bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Additionally, you will be prepared for a career as an economist, studying in a School of Economics run by world-leading experts. 

Places on the course are allocated on merit depending on first-year examination results and availability of spaces at destination universities.

This course provides rewarding opportunities to participate in summer internships and the Bristol PLUS Award. You will also benefit from the faculty's Professional Liaison Network, which runs a professional mentoring scheme with alumni, insight talks and internships. 

The programmes at the University of Bristol have run since 2010 and are delivered in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, which includes a large regional neurosciences and major trauma centre. Our Clinical courses aim to engage and inspire clinicians to enhance their skills in Clinical Neuropsychology and support entry on to the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. This MSc is accredited by BPS Division of Neuropsychology and delivers the adult knowledge and practice component of the competency requirements for advanced training in clinical neuropsychology.

Around 80% of the taught content is delivered by practising clinicians, and we promote a scientist-practitioner approach and strongly advocate for neuropsychological research to be relevant and applicable to patient care and for clinical practice to be underpinned by a thorough and on-going engagement with scientific research

In order to accrue relevant clinical experience, it is your responsibility to secure both employment within a neuropsychology service and supervision for your work when enrolled on the course. We provide additional oversight and support towards developing your portfolio and ensuring your experience demonstrates the required competencies for entry to the SRCN. Support includes feedback on two written case reports and a practice viva experience. This support is provided by clinicians with experience of conducting portfolio vivas for the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).

At a critical time in history, our LLM in Health, Law, and Society presents an exciting opportunity for you to develop a deep understanding of the relationships between law, governance, and health across society and governmental sectors – and graduate with the knowledge and skills to approach some of the greatest challenges for law and policy as mechanisms to address health and wellbeing.

The LLM in Health, Law, and Society has been well received as a distinctive course that goes far beyond traditional courses on healthcare law. It offers an in-depth, intensive study of wide-ranging issues from health inequalities and regulation of the body to reproductive justice and mental health and wellbeing. It also explores the diverse roles social and political institutions and emerging technologies, such as healthtech, can play.

In your third year you will gain invaluable experience in industry working in a paid position for a major chemical company. Our students have worked for AstraZeneca, Bayer Crop Science, Croda, GlaxoSmithKline and Johnson Matthey in recent years.

Your final year includes a 20-week research project in which you will work with an academic member of staff and their research team on a current challenge in chemistry.

This course combines politics and international relations with the study of French, the first language of some 90 million speakers around the world. This provides a valuable skill set ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.

You will study the politics of individual countries and governments and the relationships between countries, communities and individuals.

Politics is organised around three themes:

• Political theory
• Comparative and national politics
• International relations.

In French, you combine advanced study of the language with cultural, literary and historical units. You spend your third year abroad, which enables you to refine your language skills and cultural knowledge and gain valuable work experience.
