at University of Bristol - Clifton Campus United Kingdom
Overview
The programmes at the University of Bristol have run since 2010 and are delivered in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, which includes a large regional neurosciences and major trauma centre. Our Clinical courses aim to engage and inspire clinicians to enhance their skills in Clinical Neuropsychology and support entry on to the British Psychological Society’s (BPS) Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists. This MSc is accredited by BPS Division of Neuropsychology and delivers the adult knowledge and practice component of the competency requirements for advanced training in clinical neuropsychology.
Around 80% of the taught content is delivered by practising clinicians, and we promote a scientist-practitioner approach and strongly advocate for neuropsychological research to be relevant and applicable to patient care and for clinical practice to be underpinned by a thorough and on-going engagement with scientific research
In order to accrue relevant clinical experience, it is your responsibility to secure both employment within a neuropsychology service and supervision for your work when enrolled on the course. We provide additional oversight and support towards developing your portfolio and ensuring your experience demonstrates the required competencies for entry to the SRCN. Support includes feedback on two written case reports and a practice viva experience. This support is provided by clinicians with experience of conducting portfolio vivas for the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QiCN).

Bachelor of Science in Criminology
Criminology is the scientific study of criminal behaviour, laws and justice. It is a multidisciplinary subject comprising elements of sociology, law, social and public policy, history, psychology and philosophy.
BSc Criminology at the University of Bristol is an exciting course that provides an opportunity to study criminology within a broader framework of policy studies.
By drawing on social harm perspectives, our courses examine conventionally defined crimes along with other problem activities or behaviours that may not be criminalised but still cause extensive harm to individuals and society. This provides you with a critical and informed understanding of crime and the criminal justice system, as well as wider social and economic questions.
In your first and second years you will take a range of mandatory units that provide a solid foundation in the subject and you will undertake training to develop your problem solving and research skills. You will also choose from a selection of optional units, including a work placement unit.
In your final year you can demonstrate what you have learned in a dissertation on a topic of your choice with the support of an academic supervisor.

Bachelor of Dental Surgery in Dentistry
This five-year degree comprises clinical activity with integrated scientific and technical teaching. With a strong core of clinical work throughout, theory, science, clinical skills, personal and professional development and teamwork are integrated at the relevant levels.
Year one introduces the clinical environment through peer group activities and observations. Clinical skills training and patient contact commence early in year two.
Later in the program, you can choose to intercalate in a science subject to obtain an Honours BA or BSc. There is the opportunity to undertake community work in the UK or abroad during your elective in year four.
The program structure is helical, with four main themes of development: Practitioner, Scholar and scientist, Professional and Agent of Change, Person and Citizen. You will be introduced to basic concepts in the healthy patient before progressing to apply your knowledge and skills to treat an increasingly complex range of oral diseases.
You will begin your dental practice in the Bristol Dental Hospital before extending your practice to community teaching clinics in the city. Here you will treat patients with a wide variety of dental diseases in a primary care setting in preparation for dental practice beyond graduation.
Student welfare is central to our program and you will have access to a wide range of support, starting with our well developed in-house personal tutor network.
Health and Disclosure and Barring Service check
Certain health conditions may be incompatible with careers in dentistry. Before starting your degree you will need to complete a health assessment questionnaire and pre-course screening for blood-borne viruses. These blood tests are to identify the few whose health status may place them and/or future patients at risk. Please note that as part of your training you will come into contact with human and animal cadaveric material.
Practising dentistry demands the highest standards of professional and personal conduct. In accordance with General Dental Council guidelines, all dental students must complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. For more information, please visit our guidelines for students on the DBS disclosure page.

Bachelor of Arts in History and Portuguese
This joint honours degree allows you to study two complementary disciplines, both of which ask you to think carefully about texts in their wider cultural and historical contexts. This course combines the broad historical knowledge and well-developed research skills gained in a history degree with the in-depth cultural awareness and advanced linguistic skills that develop through studying a modern language.

Your third year will be spent abroad, where you will have the opportunity to explore these intersections in the distinct cultural and social context of your host country while studying or working. Those who choose to study at a university will be urged to select history-based options while those who opt for work placements will be encouraged to seek placements in the heritage sector. For further details of year abroad opportunities visit Global Opportunities.
In your final year you will get the chance to explore these intersections independently in a dissertation. You will be required to write a historically-minded dissertation using some sources written in Portuguese.
