On this four-year, joint honors course you will develop your language and cultural knowledge of German to degree level alongside core units in civil and common law – the world’s most prominent legal systems. The course is structured to help you think, write, reason, and argue like an international lawyer while gaining a rich understanding of the German language, linguistics, literature, history, and culture. It will also help you develop key skills in research and analysis.

Physics is a truly international venture. This degree generally follows the structure of the MSci Physics course, offering a comprehensive grounding in physics and mathematics, practical work in the laboratory, and computational physics, alongside the study of a language to prepare you for your third year in Europe.

In your final year back in Bristol you will undertake a major project or dissertation, working in a research group with a member of staff. Our students' final-year projects address questions at the frontier of our research fields, and the most successful have been published in scientific journals.

In your first year you will gain a broad understanding of biomedical science and take units in microbiology and diseases caused by microorganisms. In addition to learning about the immune system, you will also study pathology and biochemistry.

In year two you will study the cellular and molecular basis of human diseases caused by microorganisms, such as shigella and tuberculosis, and viruses. As well as learning about the immune response to a variety of infectious microbes, you will investigate how bacteria acquire antibiotic resistance. You will take three infection units and an optional unit in your third year.

The additional, fourth year includes an extended research project and advanced research skills training with an emphasis on enterprise. You will plan projects, communicate with a variety of audiences, and learn to translate and commercialise research.

Our intensive, one-year, MSc Management with a specialism in International Human Resource Management (HRM) is for graduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds. It is not necessary to have any prior academic or practical experience in business or management. This program is for students who aspire to management-level and international HRM roles within their chosen industry.

Our MSc Management pathways provide an introduction to management followed by a detailed exploration of a specific area of management theory and practice, in this case Human Resources Management in an international context. The program attracts students from around the globe and you will work with students with different backgrounds and interests.

Within this MSc pathway, students develop an in-depth understanding of Human Resource Management theory and practice across borders. You will critically evaluate areas including cross-cultural management, comparative employment relations and HRM, and the Human Resources practices of international organisations.

You will gain insight into the nature of management and international HRM and will be armed with the knowledge to apply management theory to practice. This MSc will prepare you for a public health career in settings such as health services, government, research and the not-for-profit sector. You will gain core skills and knowledge that are applicable for public health work in the UK and internationally. These include critically appraising evidence, analysing and interpreting data, research methods, and applying methods to protect health, prevent ill-health and improve health services. The programme is suitable for students from clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.

The MSc covers the principles and practice of public health, health improvement, health protection, epidemiology and statistics, research methods and evaluation, health economics, ethics and healthcare services. You will learn from public health professionals, including colleagues from Public Health England, local government and the National Health Service, in addition to research-led teaching from multidisciplinary academic experts.

The curriculum currently includes opportunities to learn the statistical computing environment R, the Bayesian approach to estimation and prediction, and how to design powerful tests for statistical hypotheses.

The first year provides a broad background in pure, applied and statistical mathematics via a range of compulsory units. You'll cover material in lectures and small-group tutorials, with the freedom to explore a range of topics in collaboration with your personal tutor and fellow students.

From year two you will focus more on statistics and probability, although there is still scope to take some units from other areas.

As you move through the course you will gain academic independence, moving from small-group tutorial teaching in year one to an optional, independent project in your final year.
