The MSc in Medical Statistics and Data Science will enable you to engage with the complex statistical and data science healthcare challenges facing the global community, providing high-quality training in statistical and computational methods that are applicable to low-, middle- and high-income settings.

As a medical statistician you will play a vital role in improving the health of populations by conducting statistical research (such as designing clinical trials and epidemiological studies, analysing data and interpreting results) to advance medical knowledge, track or prevent diseases and improve medications and treatments.  

Challenges have arisen over the last decade in the increasing availability of enormous electronic datasets related to human health and healthcare. Data science combines mathematics, statistics and programming tools to enable analysis of these very large and diverse datasets.  

You will be trained in the theory and practice of cutting-edge methods in medical statistics and data science (including causal inference, machine learning and data mining). Teaching will focus on building strong quantitative and computational skills, and effective interpretation and communication of research findings. Our MSc Management pathways provide an introduction to management followed by a detailed exploration of a specific area of management theory and practice, in this case International Business. The program attracts students from around the globe and you will be part of a cohort with variety of backgrounds and interests. 

The MSc will provide insight into international business within a broad range of organisations. You will explore the features, organisational processes and challenges of international businesses, critically evaluating how they are affected by social, institutional and political influences.

We aim to guide, teach and develop analytical and confident critical thinkers. You will be armed with the knowledge to apply international business theory to practice. Group work and presentations, often based on industry case studies, allow practical application of theory and develop the teamwork and communication skills expected in today's workplace.

The first year provides a broad background in pure, applied and statistical mathematics via a range of compulsory units. You'll cover material in lectures and small-group tutorials, with the freedom to explore a range of topics in collaboration with your personal tutor and fellow students.

From year two you will focus more on statistics and probability, although there is still scope to take some units from other areas.

As you move through the course you will gain academic independence, progressing from small-group tutorial teaching in year one to an independent statistics project in your final year.

This degree is accredited by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) and you'll be automatically entitled to Graduate Statistician status on application to the RSS, provided you achieve at least a second class honours degree.

This course combines philosophy with the study of Spanish, which provides a valuable skill set that is ideally tailored to the increasingly globalised workplace.
