There are a growing number of new threats in international security, ranging from civil war, terrorism and transnational crime to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

This program provides you with a theoretical and empirical understanding of the international security environment of the post-Cold War era, including the origins of conflicts and peace, the emergence of new security threats and the many different agencies involved in conflict prevention, peacekeeping and peacemaking today.

The MSc aims to be empirically relevant by teaching you how to apply theoretical concepts to contemporary conflicts and current affairs.

Our MSci Chemistry with Study Abroad in a Modern Language course is suited to you if you want to deepen your understanding of the subject and broaden your experience by studying chemistry in a foreign language during your third year.

The first two years are common to all of our degree courses. You will study fundamental concepts in inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, and applications in areas such as analytical, environmental, materials and theoretical chemistry.

You will also develop your ability to design experiments and interpret results and gain key skills through our chemistry-specific communications and mathematics units.

Our intensive, one-year, MSc Management with a specialism in International Human Resource Management (HRM) is for graduates from a wide range of subject backgrounds. It is not necessary to have any prior academic or practical experience in business or management. This program is for students who aspire to management-level and international HRM roles within their chosen industry.

Our MSc Management pathways provide an introduction to management followed by a detailed exploration of a specific area of management theory and practice, in this case Human Resources Management in an international context. Within this MSc pathway, students develop an in-depth understanding of Human Resource Management theory and practice across borders. You will critically evaluate areas including cross-cultural management, comparative employment relations and HRM, and the Human Resources practices of international organisations.

You will gain insight into the nature of management and international HRM and will be armed with the knowledge to apply management theory to practice. There is growing demand for skilled graduates to work in industries such as consumer electronics, alternative energy and transport, medical engineering and communications.

Years one and two provide a strong grounding in mathematics, computing, analogue and digital electronics, communications, electromagnetics, power electronics and control. In the third and fourth years you will choose from a range of optional units, meaning you can focus on anything from electrical power systems to electronic communications.

Year three includes a group design project and in the fourth year you will undertake an individual research project.

The MEng course provides full accreditation for the qualification of Chartered Engineer. The first two years are common with the BEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering and transfer between courses is possible until the end of year two subject to satisfactory performance.
