Overview
Our new MSci course is ideal if you want to continue in research or to stand out when applying for a PhD.
In your first year you will gain a broad understanding of biomedical science and take units in microbiology and diseases caused by microorganisms. In addition to learning about the immune system, you will also study pathology and biochemistry.
In year two you will study the cellular and molecular basis of human diseases caused by microorganisms, such as shigella and tuberculosis, and viruses. As well as learning about the immune response to a variety of infectious microbes, you will investigate how bacteria acquire antibiotic resistance. Our eBiolabs online resources are available to help you prepare for practical laboratory sessions in the first and second year.
You will take three infection units and an optional unit in your third year.
The additional, fourth year includes an extended research project and advanced research skills training with an emphasis on enterprise. You will plan projects, communicate with a variety of audiences, and learn to translate and commercialise research.
The School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine focuses on turning science into medicine and these courses aim to launch you into a research career with an emphasis on translational research.

Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Literatures and Cultures and Italian
Our BA Comparative Literatures and Cultures degree offers an unmatched opportunity to study international cultural production in both depth and breadth. You will study global literatures and cultures in comparative frameworks that draw on methodologies from textual, cultural and visual studies, as well as from translation, philosophy, history, social science and critical theory. Texts will be read in English translation.
Core units in years one and two currently include What is Comparative Literature and How Do We Practise It?; Introduction to Visual Cultures; Popular Representation and Institutions of Culture; Migrations of Culture. Additionally, you will have a wide choice of optional units based in the culture of a single language or a combination of cultures.
You will spend your third year in an Italian-speaking country, where you will undertake university study, a British Council assistantship or a work placement. You will follow a programme of study in Italian, developing linguistic skills enabling you to communicate easily in writing and orally. In year four you will complete an innovative supervised independent project, consisting of an extended essay on a topic of your choice and a public-facing element presented to the entire cohort (e.g. prospectus, interview, museum catalogue entries, newspaper article).
You will be taught by experts in the field and teaching is informed by staff research interests. The course is delivered in varied ways, through lectures, tutorials, seminars, workshops and one-to-one supervision. You will participate in small-group teaching and may be asked to give introductory talks to initiate discussion.

Bachelor of Arts in Ancient History
Ancient History at Bristol gives you the flexibility to combine core units on Graeco-Roman culture and history with more specialised topics.
In the first two years you will take core units exploring the history of the ancient Greek and Roman world, the sources of information available for reconstructing it, and the different approaches employed by modern scholars. You will also choose from optional units on a wide range of topics dealing with Roman and Greek society and culture, including literature, philosophy and art. You may also choose to study Latin or Greek. There is the possibility of studying abroad for one semester in the second year.
In your third year you will choose units from a range of special subject seminars based on our academics' wide range of research interests.
In co-operation with a supervisor you will research and write a dissertation on a topic of your choice. You will also take the Applied Classics unit and plan, market and execute a project aimed at presenting the ancient world to the wider public with a member of staff acting as adviser.

Studying a combination of history of art and Spanish offers an enriching experience with exciting intellectual challenges. It provides a valuable skill set that is ideally tailored to an increasingly globalised workplace.
Spanish is the second most widely spoken European language in the world and is the second language of the United States. The Department of Hispanic, Portuguese and Latin American Studies has a strong specialism in Latin American film and visual culture.
You will study a combination of language, art history and culture units, spending your third year abroad in a Spanish-speaking country on a study or work placement. While abroad, you will refine your skills in your chosen language along with your cultural understanding.

You will learn about the fundamental building blocks and forces of nature and how quantum physics and relativity help us understand the world around us.
Year one gives you a comprehensive grounding in physics and mathematics, and year two focuses on the principles of physics. Flexibility and choice are key features of a Bristol Physics degree. You are usually able to transfer between courses in the first two years, and a range of options in the final year means you can specialise in your chosen field or take a more general approach.
Your third year includes a major project or dissertation. This genuinely interdisciplinary program offers an innovative way of studying medieval culture and society. As a student, you will benefit from research-led teaching and skills-based training across a wide variety of disciplines, including history, literature, languages, manuscript studies, music, religion and classics.
At Bristol, you have access to one of the most active centres for medieval studies in the UK, comprising more than 30 staff members and approximately 20 postgraduate research students (MPhil/PhD) each year, who together form a lively and dynamic interdisciplinary community.
Every year, the Centre for Medieval Studies hosts a large number of research seminars, lectures and public talks. Staff who teach on the program are members of the Centre, and many have an international reputation in their respective fields.

BA International Business Management and French will help you develop the intellectual, analytical, critical and employability skills you will need to succeed as a manager or leader in many careers across different sectors. A knowledge of French, the first language of some 90 million speakers around the world, will allow you direct access to the cultural production, political debates and economic data from French-speaking countries.
Your first year will introduce basic concepts and tools – both qualitative and quantitative – for the study of management. Alongside this, you will continue your study of French and gain a grounding in the principal ideas and key events that have shaped French national identity.

Master of Arts in Chinese-English Audiovisual Translation
The MA Chinese-English Audiovisual Translation is designed to prepare students to work in the fast-growing audiovisual sector of the language industries. The driver for industry growth is the ubiquitous availability of video content. Audiovisual translation accounts for up to a third of language services activity both in China and internationally.
The program focuses on technological competence and practical skills building in a range of audiovisual translation modes. The program also offers a broader grounding in key concepts and audiovisual industry dynamics. Students build their core skills through compulsory units in applied translation, CAT tools, translation theory and concepts in audiovisual translation. They can then take options in subtitling, videogame localization, introduction to specialised translation or translation and international film distribution. Students can do a research-based or a practice-based dissertation; the dissertation must be on a topic related to audiovisual translation.
Tutors include specialists in translation technologies, videogame localization and subtitling. Bristol is a UNESCO City of Film and film and media culture is very lively here.
