This Scottish Mediation Register-accredited programme is the only course of its kind in the UK. It's rigorous and multidisciplinary, combining both theoretical and practical elements. You'll be exposed you to a wide range of approaches as well as being taught by experts from across the UK.

Graduates at Certificate, Diploma or Masters level fulfil the training requirements for the Scottish Mediation Register.

For those working in international settings, the core modules can be combined with classes such as International Human Rights Law to provide the foundation for work with charities and non-governmental organisations committed to conflict resolution.

You can graduate with either an LLM or MSc. Those whose dissertations deal with significant legal or justice questions receive recognition via an LLM. Biomedical engineering is a rapidly expanding industry, with the National Health Service, industrial and academic research and development all making advances to meet the increasing demands of healthcare.

Studying with us, you will gain broad training in modern biomedical engineering and learn about the complexities of human anatomy and physiology. You'll study core mechanical and electrical engineering subjects.

The Department of Biomedical Engineering has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and is one of the oldest such departments in the world, with expertise and excellence in teaching and research.

Accreditation

The BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering degree is accredited by the Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine (IPEM), the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), on behalf of the Engineering Council, for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partly meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Speech and language therapists assess and treat a wide variety of speech, language and communication problems. Our course, which provides a route into this profession, is the longest established in Scotland and one of the oldest in the UK.

The four-year Honours degree programme covers four subject areas:

• Speech and language pathology
• Linguistics and phonetics
• Psychology
• Medical sciences

You'll take part in work placements throughout the four years.

Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour. Studying with us, you'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, co-ordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.

Due to the popularity of the course and performance criteria for entry into Honours (Year 4) the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited.

Following the recent global economic crisis, economics is more important and relevant than ever. Decisions on money, banking, interest rates, taxation and government spending affect us all with global consequences.

Economics aims to understand the activities of the different agents in the economy – consumers, producers and the government – and how they all fit together.

Today’s media industry expands beyond traditional print and broadcast journalism. It includes professional bloggers and vloggers, freelance writers and editors, podcasters, people working in entertainment TV, radio, or film, creators of video games and interactive apps, promoters of ideas and products, and many others.

The most successful professionals in today’s media are not only highly skilled in reporting, writing, editing and pitching their material, but they're also excellent communicators online and offline, and problem-solvers. They're innovative and entrepreneurial, bold and curious, open-minded and collaborative. These are also some of Strathclyde’s core values, which guide our own teaching, research, and public engagement.

Social Policy examines the ways in which societies distribute resources and develop services to meet individual and social needs. Key social policy issues examined include poverty; economic, race, age and gender inequality; social justice health; education; criminal justice and housing.

It utilises a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods to improve our understanding of how societies organise their resources to meet individual and social needs and how they measure progress in these areas. 

This programme gives you the opportunity to learn more about the social and economic challenges facing Scottish society and place these in a broader international perspective. It draws on disciplines such as history, sociology, anthropology, economics, law, psychology, social anthropology and politics.

• The School of Government & Public Policy has a number of research centres that relate to the topics covered and the content of the course. For example, the European Policies Research Centre is a leading hub for the study of regional development policy and collection of such data in Europe, a centre that is of increasing importance in the wake of Brexit.
• Specialised policy centres focused on health and energy – such as the Centre for Energy Policy – also add to the applied policy environment at Strathclyde. The Institute for Future Cities' City Observatory, located in Strathclyde’s award-winning Technology & Innovation Centre, uses data to understand and address urban problems.
