This 18-month MSc course has been developed to provide high-calibre mechanical engineering graduates with an in-depth technical understanding of advanced mechanical topics. Industrial Placement

• You'll complete an industrial placement in the period from June to August, after you have completed the taught part of your degree, but before your final project. The Department will support you in making applications for industry internships. Please note that it's your responsibility to secure a work placement.
• You'll be fully supported by the University while on a placement. You'll be allocated a University of Strathclyde supervisor who'll act as your point of contact during your placement.

The course gives you the opportunity to explore and master a wide range of applied physics skills. It also teaches you transferable, problem-solving and numeracy skills that are widely sought after across the commercial sector.

On the MSc programme you'll acquire:

• In-depth knowledge of current and emerging theories, techniques and practices within the field of physics and the life sciences and the ability to apply these theories in a professional setting
• Problem-solving and high numeracy skills that are widely sought-after across the commercial sector skills required to use high-power microwave technology in an industrial environment
• Professional abilities in applying laser-based particle acceleration and enabled applications
• In-depth knowledge of materials and solid state physics, photonics & quantum optics and quantum information technology.

You'll put the knowledge gained in the taught classes to use on a research project. You can design the project to fit in with your interests and career plans.

Law is concerned with the study of the obligations, duties and rights which every member of society has in relation to one another and to the state.

The study of law is regarded not as purely vocational, but part of a broader education. Please note that studying law within the BA degree will not qualify you for entry to the legal profession. For professional qualifications in law, students follow the LLB programme.

Our main focus in psychology is the study of human behaviour.

You'll look at conditions of behaviour – how we learn, remember, coordinate our actions and interact with others – and the reasons for differences between individuals, such as personality or intelligence.

Due to the popularity of the course and performance criteria for entry into Honours (Year 4) the numbers admitted to Years 2 and 3 of the course are limited.

Studying accounting at Strathclyde, you'll learn about the preparation, presentation and interpretation of financial information that enables investors, lenders, management, employees, government and others to make effective decisions.

Biochemistry is the study of how cells work at molecular level. Biochemistry, and the related field of molecular biology are important in understanding the molecular basis of life and its role in the disease process.

Immunology is the study of how the body defends itself against disease. It helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy.
