Our Architectural Design Technology degree explores how design and technology work together, giving you practical working knowledge of both areas.

The course is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) and you will be eligible for Associate Membership (ACIAT) on graduation. You can progress to full Chartered status with appropriate experience, and being a Chartered Architectural Technologists will give you all the same powers as an Architect but in considerably less time.

This course is also available to study with a foundation year BSc (Hons) Architectural Design Technology (four years including foundation year)

The foundation year programme is designed to gradually build the required mathematical skills and science and engineering knowledge for you to progress into your level-4 study. It is designed specifically for the candidates who do not have enough/required UCAS tariff points for their direct level-4 entry or strong enough science and engineering background or would like to build a more solid foundation for your degree studies.

Much has been made of the use of composite materials in the aerospace industry with the Airbus A350XWB and the Boeing Dreamliner being headline news. However, the advantages of using composite materials can be extended to the majority of engineering areas and disciplines.

The rapid emergence of composites has revealed a difficulty in supplying the industry with Engineers that have the requisite knowledge of the materials. This MSc in Composite Material Engineering has been developed with that in mind. Students will learn the full lifecycle of components designed and manufactured with composites.

From first principles, potential students will learn the constituent parts of a composite material and understand the reasons for selecting each material. From there manufacturing methodologies will be understood. Design using composites will be taught after the different types of failure mechanisms are shown. Finally, repair, recycling and disposal of composites will be discussed in detail.

Students will be taught by lecturers from industrial and research background through a combination of lectures, tutorials, Laboratory sessions and computer classes.  Industry standard software will be taught to enable the students to graduate with the skills required for industry.

• The university shares an Advanced Composite Training and Development Centre, (ACT&DC) with Airbus at the Broughton site a fully-equipped specialist composite laboratory will be used for lab tutorials throughout and also the student’s dissertation project if required.

This honours degree is for those who have a strong interest in mechanical engineering and a clear desire to develop their knowledge and skills in automotive engineering. It has been designed for the automotive industry (regional and national) in response to the shortfall of mechanical engineers.

Automotive engineering is a growing sector, many reports show that up to 28,000 new jobs will have to be fulfilled by 2020. 95% of our graduates are in a professional or managerial job with 6 months after the course (Unistats 16)

The course explores fully the engineering, design, analysis and development of modern cars using various race cars as support for teaching. It also puts emphasis on learning transferable skills, which are applicable to many other industries.

From studying the Foundation Year, learners will be able to develop with knowledge, understanding and skills of Engineering-based disciplines and their applications which help learners prepare for further years of study and success in engineering degree.

An MBA qualification continues to be the flagship qualification for post-graduate business students seeking to increase subject knowledge, build a portfolio of management skills and enhance future career prospects in a competitive and increasingly global arena. 

The MBA suite consists of a number of routes (see above) all of which encompass three core topics, which provide the foundation for a successful business, namely strategy, finance and leadership. 

MBA - There is a mix of traditional ‘hard core’ academic business Master’s modules consisting of Strategy, Finance, Marketing and HRM which continue to be the foundation for this type of programme. The programme routes offer other modules, drawing on a wide range of bodies of knowledge, which reflect the context within which an organisation is required to trade. The outcome is a rounded business outlook with insights into corporate governance, environmental concerns, marketing and HRM perspectives within a framework of effective and critical reflective practice.

MBA (Marketing) - The inclusion of the Marketing route is particularly distinctive and is readily embedded within the programme. The overarching teaching and learning strategy which encompasses current business and marketing issues together with issues arising within the students’ workplaces if, and where, appropriate. This ensures the three-fold framework of skills, mind-set and knowledge are oriented towards this particular body of knowledge throughout the duration of the taught element of the programme for students electing to take this route. MBA (HRM) - Similarly, the HRM route is of increasing relevance where people are the foundation of a vibrant world economy and requires a mind-set that is supported by an understanding of HRM practices where transferable business knowledge and key management skills are important. During the generic taught modules students will be encouraged and supported to bring HRM issues into classroom debate as a pre-curser to including and emphasising current issues in their assignments.
