A major in political science offers valuable, comprehensive knowledge of American government and global politics, helping to prepare students to analyze complex political problems and recognize potential solutions in both the public and private sector. Students are able to gain an understanding of political structure, theory, and methodology. They can also develop their research skills and sense of intellectual property using libraries, archives, and online sources. The program provides an opportunity for students to develop their writing skills and learn the responsibility for clearly presenting and interpreting political issues using the language of the discipline. The M.S. Mathematics degree program provides advanced study in the theoretical and applied aspects of mathematics and statistics.  Students gain a deep foundation and core competency in at least three sub-disciplines of mathematics and broad exposure to other areas through elective courses in pure and applied mathematics or statistics.  Students graduating with the M.S. Mathematics degree are prepared for a number of possible objectives, including careers in industry and government; teaching at two-year and four-year colleges; or further study toward a Ph.D. program.  Through the thesis option, students gain experience in advanced problem solving through research in the mathematical sciences.  Upon completion of the program, many of our students go on to earn doctoral degrees and conduct research in a variety of fields in pure and applied mathematics and statistics.

The Arkansas State University MBA Program is a professional degree program designed to prepare students of all educational and professional backgrounds for management positions in all types of organizations. As such, the program stresses the development of analytical, problem-solving and decision making competencies for the dynamic, complex global organizational and social environments.

Majors in the Department of Criminology, Sociology, and Geography are prepared for many professions including teaching, government service, law, business, research, cartography, and community planning; and for professional careers within the criminal justice system such as police, truancy and probation officers, parole officers, and correctional and research personnel.

The focus of the B.S. Mathematics degree program at Arkansas State University is to provide students with the opportunity and the direction to pursue the intellectual challenges of mathematics; and to provide the mathematical knowledge necessary to function competently in graduate school and/or in a career requiring mathematical skills.  Students graduating with the B.S. Mathematics degree will have a strong foundation in the fundamental notions of mathematics, including rigorous proof, and will possess valuable skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and the effective communication of mathematical concepts and models.  Coursework includes exposure to physics, programming, and electives that allow students to explore various topics in applied and pure mathematics and statistics.  The flexibility within the B.S. Mathematics degree allows for optimal preparation for graduate study in mathematics or statistics and prepares B.S. Mathematics students for pursuing careers as an actuary, mathematician, operations research analyst, or statistician; and for other jobs in business, industry, or government that have math as an essential job skill.

The Arkansas State University Masters in Exercise Science program is designed to prepare students for a variety of jobs in health, wellness, and the clinical settings through course work, practical experiences, and research opportunities. Graduates of the program will be prepared to take certification exams offered through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  Obtaining this degree along with nationally recognized certifications will prepare individuals to work and manage commercial and corporate wellness facilities as well as work in the clinical settings.

The field of clinical laboratory science offers opportunities for students who are interested in the biological and chemical sciences. Clinical laboratory scientists are academically prepared, skilled laboratory workers who perform a variety of analyses which aid the physician in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

The BS-Clinical Laboratory Scientist degree is a 4-year program which provides an understanding of the theoretical and scientific fundamentals underlying the procedures involved, which include a broad based knowledge in the principles of human biology, chemistry, analytical instrumentation, and a familiarity with the educational and managerial aspects associated with one who occupies a professional role in a wide variety of settings.

The Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Organizational Supervision is a four-year degree program designed to help students transition from a technical expert to a professional leader. The BAS degree is designed with the working adult in mind and is often a common next step for individuals who have an Associate of Applied Science degree and are seeking workforce development or advancement in their current jobs or careers.

Students in the program will gain practical knowledge and academic proficiencies needed to help build upon their technical foundation to provide a pathway to a baccalaureate degree.

Health Promotion is the process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. Students completing this degree program will have the skills and competencies necessary to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate effective health-related programs. Graduates often find employment in public health agencies, clinical facilities (hospitals and medical clinics), worksite wellness departments, or voluntary agencies.

The Department of Art at Arkansas State University will provide an educational environment that fosters the creation and understanding of art. Students in art develop insight, sensitivity, and perception toward all aspects of nature while building individual expressive responses. Aesthetic and functional values, creative ideas, and media skills are developed through instructional guidance and applied experience in the studio and classroom.

Learning Outside the Classroom
Some of the courses may involve field trips to Memphis Brooks Museum, The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, or other regional art collections. Arkansas State University is an Accredited Institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

Why the BFA?
The Bachelor of Fine Arts degree programs are designed to prepare students for professional careers as a classroom art teacher, graphic designer, or studio artist. The BFA in Art (with emphasis in Studio Art or Art Education) is the initial professional degree, and it is the requisite degree for the student who plans to pursue a studio-oriented post-baccalaureate degree
