Overview

The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) program, a one-year master’s degree plan consisting of 30 semester credit hours, is designed for all engineers on management career paths as well as for those charged with managing technology in engineering, manufacturing, and other high-tech organizations. The MEM degree program will also benefit engineers pursuing licensure in states where candidates for professional licensure are required to have an additional 30 semester credit hours of coursework beyond the bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in engineering. The curriculum consists of courses offered by the A-State College of Engineering and Computer Science.

Work Permit USA

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.

It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

  1. Pre-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment provided to F-1 students before completion of their course of study.
  2. Post-Completion OPT: This is temporary employment available to F-1 students after completing their course of study.
  3. 24 Month STEM Extension: Students enrolled in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses can a 24-month extension after their initial Post-Completion OPT authorization.

Creative Media Production is designed to nurture students with a passion for storytelling and communicating, and a talent for expressing themselves. Through experiential learning, students learn how to create and distribute content across multiple media platforms. This provides a solid foundation on which to build their careers in a variety of rewarding professions.

  • Corporate Media (also Online) - Students create their own path of content creation for all platforms from broadcasting, filmmaking and web and social media content. The corporate media emphasis prepares students for the dynamic field of communication where message creation and distribution is learned by combining hands-on media production experiences with a solid theoretical foundation. Students may pursue a variety of production opportunities from creating content for broadcasting, corporate clients and organizations to writing, and producing their own films and video content.
  • Graphic Communication - Think of all the products you use every day. Look at how they are designed, marketed, printed, packaged, sold and delivered. As a student in Graphic Communications, you will develop both the technical and creative abilities to become a successful professional in a technology-driven and dynamic multi-billion-dollar industry. Graphic Communications majors learn the skills necessary for many different career focuses, including graphic design, distribution, technology, printing, packaging, marketing and web design/development. Our unique concept of hands-on learning will prepare you for a variety of professions within the realm of graphic communications.
  • Sports Media -  If you are passionate about sports and want to describe the stories around them then the Sports Media emphasis is for you. You can be on the sidelines near all the action as a camera operator, in the booth describing it live to an audience, or in the control room calling the shots as the director.Sports Media students are involved in studio and remote productions for radio, television, and online presentation. They are also interviewing the athletes and coaches for newscasts. Finance - Concentration
The MBA with a Concentration in Finance is designed to allow students to complement their studies in business administration with in-depth coverage of the core components of ?nance, including corporate ?nance, ?nancial markets and institutions, and investments. Bachelor of Science in Physics

The courses in chemistry and physics are designed to prepare individuals for a variety of post-baccalaureate options. The Bachelor of Science degree is for individuals who are seeking employment as chemical or physical professionals, or who wish to continue studies toward a Masters or Ph.D. Students who are looking to pursue a further degree in law, medicine, dentistry, or pharmaceuticals will find either the B.S. degrees in chemistry or physics or the Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry as an option for entry into the appropriate post-baccalaureate program. The Bachelor of Science in Forensic Science degree will prepare students for a career in forensic science, while the Bachelor of Science Education degrees will lead to a rewarding career in secondary science education. In all of these programs, there are sufficient elective hours to allow students to customize their degrees for careers as diverse as technical librarians, salesman, writers, or translators.

The public history emphasis focuses on teaching students to be historians who are strong academics but who also engage the greater public. Students are required to take 12 hours of history electives (global or US), 12 hours of public history, and 6 hours of thesis or internship. Accepted students who had not taken the Practice of History or an equivalent historical methods course as an undergraduate will have to take this course at a graduate level for additional credit hours. The Department of History will allow up to 6 credit hours from another institution. Graduates with a MA in public history often go on to pursue a PhD in public history or heritage studies, work at museums or heritage sites, or apply for careers in historic preservation or other public history-related professions.

The global history emphasis is for students who are interested in studying big questions, especially those pertaining to the processes, events, and people who have created an increasingly interconnected world. Students will engage with the works of important historians in the field, theory, and historiography while honing their ability to research and write as global historians themselves. This program is aimed at students who want to subsequently pursue global or non-US history PhD programs, who want to teach high school world history at an advanced level, who want to teach world history in community colleges, and who are interested in foreign service careers. Global history students are required to take Theory and Practice in Global History, Seminar in Global History, 9 hours of world history, 9 hours of history electives, and 6 hours of either thesis or additional history electives.

Public Safety and Legal Studies

Master of Arts in Criminal Justice

The M.A. in Criminal Justice is designed to serve two purposes. First, the program will assist in developing additional analytical skills for in-service practitioners with B.A./B.S. in the field or in a closely related field. Second, the program will provide a good foundation for students who wish to pursue doctoral studies.

In order to fulfill the requirements of the program, students are required to select a graduate committee comprised of at least three faculty members from the graduate faculty, two of whom must be from the department of Criminology, Sociology, and Geography. The selection of the committee should take place no later than the end of a student’s second semester in the program. Additionally, students are required to submit a graduate plan to the committee for consideration, which shall indicate the courses that a student plans to take to fulfill the degree requirements. At least two members of the committee must approve of the plan.

The Bachelors of Arts degree in Computer Science focuses on the basics of computer problem solving applicable to the business environment.  The program builds a strong foundation in programming, software development, algorithms, operating systems, networking, and database systems.  

In addition, a broad exposure to information technology in business provides an understanding of problem solving in a business environment.  Students will gain skills in several programming environments and software applications through laboratories and classroom assignments.  Electives are part of the program and allow students to explore various topics in artificial intelligence, distributed systems, graphics, compilers, and advanced programming.
