The major in history with the Bachelor of Arts degree is recommended for those seeking a liberal education and aspiring to careers in history, law, theology, journalism, and library work; in local, state, and national public service; in business where a knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs is desirable; and in every area which requires an understanding of human activity.

Majors in the Department of Criminology, Sociology, and Geography are prepared for many professions including teaching, government service, law, business, research, cartography, and community planning; and for professional careers within the criminal justice system such as police, truancy and probation officers, parole officers, and correctional and research personnel.

The BS Psychology program supports the Arkansas State University mission by providing students with a challenging environment designed to foster understanding of themselves and others. The primary purpose of the program is to prepare students to take advantage of professional and personal opportunities for growth and community engagement. Courses offered in philosophy are designed to provide students with the knowledge and logical skills to understand and critically evaluate the intellectual, moral, and religious choices they encounter.

The program for students majoring in philosophy seeks to provide the background necessary for those preparing for law school, seminary, and graduate school as well as for those who simply seek a liberal education as the foundation of a career in business or industry.

Classes will introduce you to some of the perennial questions we encounter: Free Will and Determinism;  What makes an action right or wrong;  Reason and Religion.

What Skills Will You Develop?
Philosophy will develop critical thinking and reasoning skills.  What is some of the evidence for this? Philosophy majors score higher on the Law School Admissions Test than any other area of the Liberal Arts.  Philosophy majors score higher than any other major on the verbal section of the Graduate Record Exam.

The Radiologic Sciences Programs are administered by the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences in the College of Nursing and Health Professions. The program is designed to produce Radiologic Science professionals who are clinically competent, advanced level radiologic sciences practitioners. The program is a "1 plus 1" model, meaning all students begin their sophomore year in radiography, then choose one of six "tracks" for their senior year.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Provides students with the skills necessary to operate sonographic equipment and control images through various enhancements.

A Master's Degree in Political Science is an intensive program of specialized study designed to develop students' analytical skills and deepen their substantive knowledge of political science in preparation for such pursuits as law school, teaching, or doctoral studies. The students may specialize in any of the four subfields: American politics, comparative politics, international politics or political theory.

The Mission of the MA program is to prepare students for future educational and career opportunities in both the public and private sectors. We accomplish this mission by equipping our students with substantive knowledge and methodological skills necessary to conduct research, instruct primary, secondary, and undergraduate students on civics, government, and politics, and/or pursue advanced graduate studies in professional programs (i.e., doctoral, law school, and other public and private related programs of study).

The Molecular Biosciences degree programs encompasses the areas of biotechnology, cell biology, computational biology, immunology, food safety, neurobiology, regulation of gene expression, signal transduction and cellular metabolism, and structural biology.

The program emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, state-of-the-art technologies and innovation that allow students the opportunities to engage in research in genomic, proteomic, cellular, and organ-based systems for the purpose of translating this knowledge into applications benefitting society in fields ranging from agriculture to medicine, from forensics to environmental sciences, from food sciences to renewable energy.

The B.A. in English is the quintessential Liberal Arts Degree. English B.A. graduates are likely to be seen anywhere -- sitting in a law school class; reading in a coffee shop on the campus where they teach English; working in a government office; working as a technical writer trying to rephrase something from computer-speak to ordinary English ; or preparing for the ministry in a seminary. The Department of health, Physical Education, and Sport Sciences currently offers two Graduate degrees. The Master of Science in Education degree with a major in Physical Education and the Master of Science degree with a major in Exercise Science. Each degree offers two programs of study options. The first program of study is a 30 credit hour program of study with a Thesis requirement and no elective course requirements. The second program of study is a 33 credit hour program of study that requires a Graduate Project and 6 credit hours of restricted electives. The Master of Science in Education degree in Physical Education is designed to provide a quality professional program in the field of Physical Education that meets standards at the graduate level, including the Professionally Emerging Teacher and the Emerging Profession.

The courses in chemistry and physics are designed to prepare individuals for a variety of post baccalaureate options. The Bachelor of Science degree is for individuals who are seeking employment as chemical or physical professionals, or who wish to continue studies toward a Masters or Ph.D.

Students who are looking to pursue a further degree in law, medicine, dentistry, or pharmaceuticals will find either the B.S. degrees in chemistry as an option for entry into the appropriate post-baccalaureate program.
