Our M.A. is one of only two in the CSU system to focus specifically on rhetoric and composition studies, and one of only a few nationwide. The program enables students to become socially committed, rhetor­ically flexible writers who make significant contributions in their cho­sen fields and communities. Our graduates are well prepared to pursue secondary or college teaching, advanced graduate study, and other ca­reers emphasizing writing, research, and analytical thinking.

The Bachelor's of Art degree program in chemistry is designed for the student who plans a career in chemistry or the related sciences upon graduation, continuation to graduate school in the chemical sciences, or professional health sciences such as medicine or pharmacy, but is interested in studying other subjects to augment a basic chemistry curriculum, perhaps with a minor or a double major in another field, for example.  The program provides foundational course work in the sub-disciplinary areas of organic, inorganic, physical, analytical, and biochemistry with cognate course work in biology, mathematics and physics.  A concentration in biochemistry or chemistry is required.  The B.A. program is not certified by the American Chemical Society.

The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics program is designed for the student who, upon graduation, plans to pursue graduate studies in mathematics, begin a career in mathematics or closely related field, or pursue teaching. We offer three distinct concentrations. Students are encouraged to speak to a mathematics faculty advisor to select the appropriate concentration and elective courses that will best fit their career goals.

The Bachelor of Arts in Career and Technical Studies (BCTS) is designed to provide candidates with significant occupational and teaching experience the opportunity to have that experience count as partial credit toward a baccalaureate degree.

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree is designed for those public health professionals seeking to advance to management levels in the design, implementation, and administration of public health agencies. The two-year program is ideal for professionals who wish to expand their skills, knowledge, and expertise, as well as for students wishing to advance their knowledge and build a career in the field. The foundation of the curriculum is the five core areas of public health: health status and determinants of health, public health statistics, epidemiology, environmental and occupational health, and health systems organization and delivery.

The program for a bachelor of arts degree in physics provides basic knowledge in the main subject areas of physics as well as an opportunity for students to elect a considerable number of courses in other disciplines. This is a good choice for students planning careers in high school teaching, medical or other pre-professional schools, or other inter-disciplinary careers. The BA in Physics requires a total of 66 units listed below; of those 7 units count towards the university's General Education requirements. In addition to the General Education and the BA Physics requirements, students will need to complete 12 additional units in order to satisfy the 120 units required for graduation.

The Master of Science Degree in Industrial & Organizational Psychology provides a comprehensive slate of I/O-specific courses designed to prepare students for immediate entry into careers in applied settings. Academic coursework is supplemented with an applied externship completed for academic credit. The program requirements provide excellent preparation for those interested in pursuing a Ph.D. upon completion of the MS. The course of study also includes a strong, five-course quantitative sequence in research methodology, statistics, and measurement. I/O students are expected to become competent in theory, research, and application of psychology as each relates to human behavior in private and public organizations.

The primary objective of the industrial/organizational program is to provide students with the skills to apply the principles and methods of psychology to organizations, public and private, and to settings where people are engaged in work. To be successful in this application, the graduate must have developed knowledge and appreciation of psychological theory and research as they apply to organizations and people at work, and mastery of the measurement and research technologies which are commonly used in the discipline.

Students are encouraged to check that they have met the prerequisite requirements for each course in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration in which they are planning to enroll. Prerequisite requirements listed for each course are strictly enforced.

Enrollment in 3000-, 4000- and 5000-level courses in the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration is restricted to students who have completed at least 60 semester units (i.e., have achieved junior standing). Course prerequisites are strictly enforced.

The Master of Arts in Communication Studies is designed for students who wish to apply advanced communication perspectives, methodologies, and competencies in their careers. Communication is key, and nobody knows that better than you. You may have come from an undergraduate program in Communication Studies or an entirely different undergraduate degree, but you know that in order to advance in today’s digital and fast-paced professional environments, it is critical for you to have an advanced degree that prepares you as an effective communicator and leader.

The M.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies is coordinated by the Dean of Graduate Studies. This unique multidisciplinary program gives highly motivated students the opportunity to craft their own course of study and pursue knowledge in an area not otherwise available in the university's degree programs. Students consult with the Dean of Graduate Studies and their committee (three faculty members) to develop their individual program. Interested students should consult the guidelines for Interdisciplinary Studies candidates and complete the proposal form available from the Office of Graduate Studies.
