The German Master of Arts program focuses on cultural studies topics and skills regarding foremost literature, cinema, philosophy, and pedagogy. Students are encouraged to study at German-speaking universities and the program assists with overseas study plans. For graduate students interested in multimedia teaching technology, the program provides special projects and practical opportunities. Teaching Assistantships are available.

This option is designed for students who wish to become secondary school biology teachers. This option requires 81-88 units in the major, of which 47-49 are lower division and 34-39 are upper division. Prospective students should consult the Single Subject Science Education Advisor in the Department of Science Education early to plan their program.

When resources are scarce, difficult choices must be made on how resources are to be divided among competing uses. Economics is a social science that addresses the efficient allocation of scarce resources.

The political science major is designed to help students learn to think seriously and carefully about politics while preparing them for a wide variety of careers. The program provides a solid foundation in the traditional concerns of the discipline as well as broad exposure to the various things that impinge upon and are affected by the political world. Studying these issues will also enhance your skills in analytical-critical thinking, quantitative reasoning, and oral, written, and electronic communication. CSULB political science offers undergraduate and MA students a wide range of rigorous, intellectually-challenging courses taught by a diverse and talented faculty who take both teaching and research seriously.

Student Development in Higher Education (SDHE) is a unique field of professional practice in U.S. higher education. The program prepares graduates to work in two- and four-year colleges and related institutions. The profession is focused on student-centered learning, drawing upon an established and growing body of research, based in traditional disciplines, emerging theoretical perspectives, and principles of human diversity and potential.

Department of Communication Studies provides students with a liberal arts education in communication arts and sciences with specialized training in communication skills and practices at the baccalaureate and graduate levels. Each student is required to consult with the department undergraduate or graduate advisor as appropriate for advisement.

The management option is designed to prepare students for a successful career in managing the business enterprise. Attention is given to creating and maintaining an effective and efficient organization in the face of a challenging dynamic global environment. The philosophical, theoretical, and practical foundations of management will be considered in the context of values and ethics. Highly qualified and dedicated faculty deliver courses on various aspects of management theory and practice, preparing students for professional careers in middle and upper management.

What Do You Do with a Degree in Religious Studies?

kandinsky KW iAlmost anything! Religious Studies is one of the four best majors to help you score high on the L.S.A.T. (Law School Admissions Test). Our students go on to other advanced degrees, become religious professionals, secondary and higher education teachers, librarians, educational entrepreneurs, managers or aid-workers in NGOs, writers or performance artists, business managers, and the like. William Bao Bean, an American venture capitalist in Asia, tells us that he only supports the ventures of Humanities majors because they have the critical and innovative mindset to be successful.

This option emphasizes mathematics frequently used in applications. The student may choose one of two suboptions: the first is aimed at applications in science and engineering, the second at applications in economics and management. Students are prepared for careers in industry, business, and government and for graduate study in applied mathematics.

Students majoring in the B.S. in Mathematics (all options) who would like an enriched academic program that includes a thesis may complete the Honors in the Major program described here.

May also complete General Honors through the University Honors Program, in which case the thesis requirement may be met through the Honors in the Major.

The objectives of this option include: (1) to provide students with theoretical foundations for understanding how employees are motivated to accomplish organizational goals; (2) to develop skills to attract, reward, develop and retain human resources; (3) to develop an understanding of the strategic, theoretical, and practical approaches to human resource management; (4) to develop aspiring leaders with a strong sense of ethics and social responsibility and an awareness of how societal changes can foster organization change. Students are introduced to the HRM functional areas, including training, staffing, compensation/benefits, labor relations, and employment law, as well as softer skills such as leadership, managing workplace diversity, international HRM, conflict, and negotiations.

The HRM Advisory Board: The HRM program is supported by an extensive alumni network active in the HR profession in Southern California. The HRM Advisory Board, made up of some of the region’s top HR professionals, offers the program guidance and support. Board members actively work to fund scholarships, participate as guest speakers in classes, attend networking and student group events, and find career opportunities for students.
