We offer four-year Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degree programs that combine computing theory and programming skills, both of which are essential for solving problems in many types of careers.

Majoring in computer science will train you to create software applications in fields ranging from gaming to Web and mobile apps and give you a strong understanding of computational theory and best practices so that you can adapt throughout your career to ever-evolving computing capabilities.

The Duquesne University Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) Program was the first five-year, entry-level Master's degree program in the nation.

Our graduates become health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. They provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, in primary and specialty care in medical and surgical practice settings.

Program Structure

"Entry level" students come into Duquesne University as freshmen, complete the five year curriculum, and earn both a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies degree.

• The rigorous 3-year pre-professional curriculum is comprised of core curriculum requirements and pre-requisites for the accredited phase.
• Pre-requisite courses provide the strong science background necessary for academic success as an accredited phase student.
• Pre-professional phase students meet with PA program faculty on a regular basis and have numerous opportunities to learn more about the program and the PA profession.

Biomedical engineering (BME), like any branch of engineering, uses scientific and mathematical principles to solve relevant problems facing the world. BME is focused on improving human health and encompasses many distinct areas such as:

• Biomedical optics
• Biomaterials
• Orthopedic biomechanics
• Biophysical interactions
• Drug delivery
• Biosensor development

Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. With a bachelor's degree in public health, graduates can make an impact on public health locally and globally, conducting research, educating, and coordinating resources to prevent the spread of diseases.

The Master of Science in Environmental Science and Management (ESM) features a core of required classes in science, policy, and management that creates a strong foundation on which to build a customized degree program. Students have the freedom to choose a concentration and a variety of electives that will help them attain their goals.

Our Health Sciences major will provide students with the skills needed to both conduct comprehensive health, wellness and fitness assessments, and develop programming to address the needs of clients, patients and populations.  Furthermore, our students will be equipped to assess the outcomes associated with these intervention strategies and prepared to implement changes accordingly.  

For those students who may be considering pursuit of a professional healthcare degree, our Health Sciences major will serve as a gateway designed to prepare students for graduate degree programs in Medicine, Athletic Training, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physician Assistant Studies.

Students from our Health Sciences Program will have opportunities to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to factor prominently into a variety of healthcare arenas, including human performance, strength & conditioning, corporate wellness, exercise physiology, health education, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, and community health & wellness.  

CERE's Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science gives students a strong foundation in the natural sciences and mathematics, as well as provides them with a broad background in environmental issues. Courses emphasize the integration of science, policy, and theory as well as connections to the local community and private sector.

Rhetoric explores professional and public leadership grounded in the liberal arts tradition. Students learn the history and practice of producing and interpreting oral and written arguments in the professional and public spheres. Rhetoric majors pursue careers in law, public policy advocacy, nonprofit administration, business, and countless other fields in a globalizing marketplace.

This program offers students a diverse curriculum in commonly and less commonly taught language Spanish and it is designed to lead to communicative language competency, exposure to a various literatures and cultures, a global education.
