The graduate programs at the Erickson School of Aging Studies provide integrated, interdisciplinary professional training for leaders in the growing longevity economy. Graduates will meet a growing workforce need for leaders with professional education to serve in management positions in public, private, and non-profit/advocacy organizations providing services to older adults.

The Erickson School of Aging Studies’ goal is to prepare graduates to apply this integrated perspective in leadership positions in a broad array of aging services organizations from government agencies/organizations and advocacy/non-profit groups to a variety of positions in the for-profit business arena.

The MPS is designed to prepare computer science, information systems, and other technical professionals to fill management and leadership roles in cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary degree program gives security professionals the range of knowledge and skills needed to be successful as managers in the emerging field of cybersecurity. Coursework includes a blend of management/legal/business courses with more technically focused courses.

The Department of Emergency Health Services at UMBC offers a graduate program leading to a Master of Science degree. This degree is also a core component of the UMB-UMBC post-residency fellowship in emergency medical services and incorporates offerings from several university departments at both UMBC and UMB.

The MPS program prepares working professionals in both small and large organizations who have an interest in incorporating entrepreneurial thinking and innovative practices into their workplace or community. The program will also be of great value to those with an interest in starting their own company or driving social change through innovation. Core courses will provide students with an understanding of the fundamental building blocks for driving innovation.

Beyond the core courses, three pathways will allow students to specialize in one of three areas: social entrepreneur, technical entrepreneur and intra entrepreneur.

The program provides advanced instruction and research opportunities in a broad range of computer engineering areas and is focused on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the state of the art in computer engineering.

UMBC’s Biotechnology curriculum is intended to address changes in the needs of the biotechnology industry through experiential learning. The curriculum provides advanced instruction in the life sciences, along with coursework in regulatory affairs, leadership, management, and financial management in a life science-oriented business.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UMBC offers a world-class Ph.D. program in Chemistry. There are 19 Faculty directing state-of-the-art research, in collaboration with 50 graduate students and 15 postdoctoral fellows and research scientists. We are large enough to have cutting-edge internationally recognized research programs as well as outstanding facilities, yet we are sufficiently small so that faculty and students know each other well. Faculty research interests consist of traditional and emerging areas of chemistry and biochemistry and include inorganic and organic synthesis, drug design and delivery, quantum dot fabrication, nanomaterial reactivity, fluorescence and photoacoustic imaging probes and sensors, single-molecule spectroscopy, photochemistry and ultrafast spectroscopy, bioinorganic chemistry, computational chemistry, structural biology, cell biochemistry, microfluidics, 3D bio-printing, and solar energy conversion.

The goal of the program prepares students from a wide range of disciplinary backgrounds for careers in data science. In the core courses, students will receive a fundamental understanding of data science through classes that highlight machine learning, data analysis and data management. The core courses will also introduce students to ethical and legal implications surrounding data science.

Beyond the core courses, students will take three courses in domain specific pathways developed in collaboration with academic departments across the university. Through these pathways, students will be able to utilize the skills and techniques learned in the core courses within their own field or area of expertise.

The graduate programs in biological sciences are designed to offer a broad, multi-disciplinary, modern education in the life sciences coupled with the development of in-depth expertise and research training within a specialized area.

The Human Services Psychology graduate program’s primary commitment is to train psychologists for research and service in the public sector, placing special emphasis on the problems of inner-city, minority and poor populations, children, youth and the aged.
