An individual plan of graduate study in chemical engineering compatible with the student’s interest and background is offered. The primary emphasis of the program’s research activities is biotechnology and biomedical engineering. Cross-discipline thesis research projects in these areas are encouraged.

The graduate programs at the Erickson School of Aging Studies provide integrated, interdisciplinary professional training for leaders in the growing longevity economy. Graduates will meet a growing workforce need for leaders with professional education to serve in management positions in public, private, and non-profit/advocacy organizations providing services to older adults.

The Erickson School of Aging Studies’ goal is to prepare graduates to apply this integrated perspective in leadership positions in a broad array of aging services organizations from government agencies/organizations and advocacy/non-profit groups to a variety of positions in the for-profit business arena.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers courses of study leading to M.S. The department offers an Accelerated Program for students who wish to combine their undergraduate studies with a master’s degree and thesis. Graduate certificates in Mechatronics and in Computational Thermal/Fluid Dynamics consist of a sequence of four graduate courses in a specific technical area. Credits from a graduate certificate apply to the M.S. degree program.

UMBC’s Intermedia and Digital Arts M.F.A. Program is where interdisciplinary artists seek to expand or reinvent their professional practice. The IMDA program is committed to art that poses unique conceptual and social challenges while offering an environment that provides artists a studio, teaching opportunities, courses in emerging methods, contemporary art and theory, engaged faculty, premier visiting artists and high-end research centers that are typical of a research university.

The graduate program in Applied Sociology prepares students for careers in program development and evaluation, policy analysis, and research in the fields of health, aging, and diversity and gender.

The program provides advanced instruction and research opportunities in a broad range of computer engineering areas and is focused on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the state of the art in computer engineering.

The Master of Arts program in Historical Studies is designed to accommodate a variety of interests and career paths that connect individuals to a deeper knowledge of history. The diverse curriculum meets the needs of students wanting to enter the growing field of Public History, teach at the K-12 level, and those seeking to go on for a doctorate in history and an academic career. The program emphasizes academic and professional training in historiography, historical methods and theory, and current conceptual tools and techniques for organizing and presenting historical evidence.

The Atmospheric Physics (ATPH) graduate program aims to educate future leaders in the physical and Earth sciences. The curriculum is designed to train students with both deep understanding of the fundamental laws of physics that govern weather and climate as well as practical tools and skills in a broad range of applications. The ATPH faculty members involve graduate students in wide-ranging research areas, including the design and fabrication of airborne and satellite borne sensors, active and passive remote sensing techniques, ultraviolet to thermal infrared spectroscopy, light scattering and radiative transfer, atmospheric dynamics, and many others.

The goal of the program is to develop successful leaders in today’s organization. Our graduates know how to think strategically about leading people in a diverse environment, make sound ethical decisions, and utilize technology to provide a strategic advantage at an appropriate level of risk. In addition, our graduates are prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing world.

The Technology Management program is built around a core set of six courses that provide the foundational knowledge in leadership, communications, ethics and project management. The core courses are supplemented with technically-oriented courses in entrepreneurship, international project management, and organizational leadership. Students can also earn certificates in systems engineering, and cyber security along with the Masters degree.

The MPS is designed to prepare computer science, information systems, and other technical professionals to fill management and leadership roles in cybersecurity. This interdisciplinary degree program gives security professionals the range of knowledge and skills needed to be successful as managers in the emerging field of cybersecurity. Coursework includes a blend of management/legal/business courses with more technically focused courses.
