Overview
The purpose of the program is to prepare students for careers in federal, state, county, and local criminal justice agencies, including management and administration; careers in public or private criminal justice research and analysis; teaching positions at community and state colleges; and/or continued education at the doctoral level.
The Master of Science in Criminal Justice (MSCJ) has two options: an internship option (Option 1) and an area research paper option (Option 2). Each option requires a minimum of 33 credit hours, including 24 credit hours of criminal justice coursework. The internship option (Option 1) requires 15 credit hours of required coursework, a 3-credit hour internship, plus an additional 6 credit hours minimum of criminal justice electives and 9 credit hours of criminal justice or noncriminal justice electives. The area paper option (Option 2) requires 15 credit hours of required coursework, a 3-credit hour area paper, plus an additional 6 credit hours minimum of criminal justice electives and 9 credit hours of criminal justice or noncriminal justice electives.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.

The B.A. in Music and an Outside Field is designed for students who want to major in music while receiving a broad, liberal arts education. B.A. students will select an outside field (27 credits), which will allow them to either earn a second bachelor's degree or prepare for placement exams for graduate school (Ex. medical and law school). This curriculum will give students broad experience in liberal arts and sciences and opportunities to develop intellectual skills in analysis and evaluation, as well as competence in written and oral communication while mastering the creativity and discipline required to complete a music degree. The B.A. in Music and an Outside Field prepares students for either graduate school or careers in various music fields with orchestral, chamber music, opera and choral organizations as well as areas such as arts administration and arts education. Students will also have the opportunity to pursue careers in a variety of fields that may be interdisciplinary in nature. Permission to major or minor in music is granted by the department of music and an audition is required.

What You Will Learn
After completing foundational courses in biology and chemistry, you will learn the building blocks of laboratory science in both classroom—and of course—lab settings. The M.S. in Environmental Science provides advanced research and educational opportunities in the earth and environmental sciences. Departmental areas of concentration include coastal science, paleoclimatology, landscape ecology, geographic information science, aquatic biogeochemistry, and soils science. The program includes both thesis and non-thesis tracks. The non-thesis track provides a foundation for employment in the private and public sectors of the environmental fields. In addition, the thesis track prepares students for advanced study leading to the doctoral degree. Marine Sciences
Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology
The University of West Florida is one of only a few institutions in the United States which offers a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology. The program is provided through the Department of Biology. The curriculum includes a series of seven core courses fundamental to all areas of biology. Elective courses emphasize theoretical and practical aspects of aquatic/marine biology. Wetlands and estuarine marshes of the main campus, as well as the nearby Santa Rosa Island campus and the Gulf of Mexico, provide living specimens for study and serve as laboratories supporting elective courses. Graduates may seek careers in marine biology, fisheries management, aquaculture, pollution biology, and marine toxicology, and find employment in local, state, and federal departments of environmental regulation and education, as well as the private sector. Graduates are also well prepared to pursue advanced degrees. Prospective students need to be aware that some biology lab courses involve the use of live animals; students may wish to seek details from course instructors before enrolling.

The B.A. in Chemistry is available in two specializations: Chemistry and Chemistry/Biochemistry. Both specializations are designed for students who need a strong background in chemistry for application in other fields such as business, education, forensic science, pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-law, and some environmental fields.
The program is designed for students who need a strong background in chemistry for application in other fields. The tracks within this program are business, pre-law, and education, and chemical hygiene. Each track has the same core of chemistry courses and a set of required courses which depends on the area of concentration. The education track meets the American Chemical Society (ACS) recommendations for a Chemistry/Education degree.
Students may also complete an advisor approved minor or its 15-18 sh equivalent in a field related to the student’s career objectives.
