The B.S. specializations in Chemistry and Chemistry/Biochemistry have been approved by the Committee on Professional Training of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and consist of courses designed to offer training in the fundamentals of chemistry. Opportunities exist for the student to take courses to prepare for a wide variety of careers in chemistry and related fields. The B.S. program is recommended for students wishing to enter graduate programs in chemistry or to find employment as professional chemists.

The B.S. in Cybersecurity prepares graduates to be leaders in the protection of data assets and analysis of potential threats to system and networks. The curriculum focuses on the techniques, policies, operational procedures, and technologies that secure and defend the availability, integrity, authentication, confidentiality, and non-repudiation of information and information systems, in local as well as more broadly based domains. The major helps prepare students for careers as information systems security professionals, senior system managers, and system administrators responsible for information systems and the security of those systems.

The Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies is a degree that allows the flexibility to explore many different aspects of theatre. Students are encouraged to audition for all the shows and participate backstage in the areas they are interested.

The College Student Affairs Administration (CSAA) program is designed for those students interested in a professional career in the various college and university student affairs and student services areas. Program participants will prepare for careers involving organisational management, student development, leadership training, and administration. Guided by the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS), the curriculum includes selected foundational studies; student development theory; student characteristics and effects of college on students; individual, group, and organisational interventions; organisation and administration; and assessment and evaluation. The program also includes substantial supervised internship opportunities.

The master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration is a 36 hour program designed to be completed in two years. The program includes a professional core in addition to an an opportunity to choose one advisor-approved elective. At least six hours of internship experience is included in the professional core. Internships are available in a wide variety of student affairs and student service areas. Students are encouraged to seek at least one internship experience away from the UWF campus.

The goal of the baccalaureate degree program is to prepare students to embark upon a professional career in Mechanical Engineering or to begin a graduate study. Graduates will be known for their accomplishments in the early stage of their careers and they should:

• Develop mechanical engineering solutions individually and through interdisciplinary teams within a global and societal context.
• Professionally and ethically engage in technical or business activity through engineering ability, communication skills, and knowledge.
• Continue professional growth through post-graduate education, continuing education, or professional activity.
• Contribute to the Northwest Florida regional economic development.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the largest, broadest, and oldest of the engineering disciplines.  It is the engineering discipline that applies the principles of engineering, materials science, thermal sciences, mechanics, mathematics and physics for the design, analysis, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems. Because of the extremely rapid growth and changes relating to the application of mechanical engineering principles, the curriculum is designed to concentrate on a solid core of foundation courses. Electives are included to permit a student to delve deeply into selected subject matter and to learn other pertinent subjects.

Mechanical Engineers are capable of working in a wide variety of industry sectors, including aerospace, manufacturing, energy, environment, transportation, materials, and structures.

We also have access to a living-learning lab with the UWF Historic Trust and the Digital Humanities Lab on campus. The trust is a non-profit direct support organization managing thirty properties in the Pensacola National Register Historic District, giving you hands-on, real-world experience.

We offer three interdisciplinary specializations: Early American Studies, Public History and Traditional History. Within each track, you will have the opportunity to learn a variety of interdisciplinary skills.

The Department of History awards several scholarships and teaching assistantships to graduate students. All students have numerous opportunities work with faculty in a variety of research areas.

What You Will Learn

By engaging the written word at a deep level, you expand your analytical and writing skills in order to develop as a scholar and a writer, enhancing the skills that are valued in many professions.

The program will provide you with opportunities to benefit from study with active scholars and successful creative writers, community-based internships, hands-on teaching experience in the UWF Writing Lab, small classes, visiting lectures by notable scholars and writers and participant-centered workshops.

You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of literary theory, British literature, American literature, poetry and rhetoric and practice writing and workshopping fiction, non-fiction, creative non-fiction and creative writing. Hone your teaching skills by teaching composition courses through our writing program.

Courses in the program cover both canonical and non-canonical works of fiction and nonfiction. You will receive broad exposure to texts from a range of historical periods and cultures. The program offers a thesis and a non-thesis track.

The Zoo Science Specialization is designed for and limited to students who have completed an A.S. in Zoo Animal Technology from Santa Fe College (Gainesville, FL). It provides further study of the field with an emphasis on the biological sciences. The specialization has been designed to prepare students for a wide variety of careers in the animal industry, in such fields as zookeeper, curator, or director or operating one’s own animal industry business. It is not designed as a pre-veterinary medicine program and does not include all of the courses normally required for admission to a college of veterinary medicine.

The Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) program prepares graduates to work with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organisations within medical and behavioral health settings, with a special focus on military populations. The Master of Social Work program at UWF develops advanced practitioners who can demonstrate clinical and critical thinking skills necessary to assist clients in a broad range of dilemmas and settings.

The B.A. degree in Philosophy is an ideal liberal arts major and provides students with foundations for a great number of careers in areas such as business, writing, teaching, public administration, law, environmental advocacy, the social and human services, and advanced studies in other humanities. The degree program helps students develop skills for problem solving in everyday life and emphasizes comprehension, communication, interpretation, criticism, and evaluation.

The B.A. in History is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to research and interpret the past. Emphasis is placed upon active participation in the creative process of historical inquiry.
