Mathematical Finance

The BS in Mathematical Finance is designed for students who are interested in finance and have the ability to dive deeply into mathematics. The program also provides an alternative for mathematics majors who find that they prefer a business-related program rather than a program in abstract mathematics.

Students pursuing a BA will take courses in Global Studies and also in related disciplines, such as Geography, Political Science, International Business, Journalism, Economics, Public Policy, Philosophy, Criminology, Sociology, and History.

Why Global Studies?
Global Studies majors are adventurous and politically engaged, with wide-ranging interests that can't be captured by a single subject or discipline. They want to understand how nations and peoples interact and influence cultural, political and social structures.

At Hofstra, we encourage Global Studies majors to immerse themselves in experiences that broaden their minds and their horizons, including study abroad, language studies, internships, service trips and volunteer work.

An INTO Hofstra Graduate Pathway program in Accounting will prepare you to enter your next semester of a master’s degree program at Hofstra University. Upon successful completion of the Pathway program and meeting university requirements for graduate admission, you may enter your next semester of graduate study at Hofstra University. This transition from an INTO Hofstra program to a university degree program is called progression.

Accounting
In most states, candidates for the CPA examination are required to have completed 150 semester hours of course work in order to be eligible for licensure. New York state currently requires 69 s.h. in business, of which 33 must be in accounting. This program, which is offered by the Department of Accounting, Taxation and Legal Studies in Business, should enable students who have taken 39 undergraduate credits in business from an accredited institution, including at least six credits in accounting, to meet this requirement. Students without the equivalent of 39 credits in business are advised to consider the MBA in Professional Accountancy, which will satisfy all educational eligibility requirements for licensure. Students are advised to check with other state boards of accountancy for eligibility requirements outside of New York state.

You will develop an understanding of how economic policy moves markets and drives values. And you will study and learn how individuals make decisions about money and investing, and how those decisions affect big-picture outcomes.
