Our master’s degree in Applied Economics links basic economic theory and statistical techniques to real-world problems faced by decision makers. The Applied Economics sequence is designed to train students in the quantitative and applied economic skills that will best enhance their future employment opportunities as economists, research analysts, or planners in the private and public sectors. While the curriculum is structured as a terminal degree in applied economics and many graduates have advanced to doctoral-level programs in economics and in related disciplines, the program is also well suited for individuals who wish to return to school to obtain a graduate degree in a business-related discipline for the purpose of career advancement.

The Applied Economics program is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

Special Education - Specialist in Learning and Behavior
As the largest specialty program, the Learning and Behavior Specialist prepares students to teach in most public special education classrooms. Specialists in Learning and Behavior teach children with learning, emotional, or cognitive disabilities, orthopedic impairments, autism spectrum, multiple disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, or other health impairments.

The Elementary Teacher Education program at Illinois State will prepare you for a professional educator's license to teach grades 1-6. The program is recognized as a model of standards-based and performance-based teacher education.

The Agronomy Management sequence emphasizes a broad knowledge of agricultural production, science, and agribusiness management. Graduates are employed by companies as crop consultants, for sales and marketing of equipment, and by companies specializing in agronomic products including seed, fertilizer, and pesticides. Additionally, career opportunities are available with local, state, and federal governmental agencies, including such organizations as Soil and Water Conservation Districts, Extension Service, and the Natural Resources Conservation Service.

English - Publishing Studies
   The Publishing Studies sequence is designed to prepare graduates for careers in all types of publishing. Undergraduate students interested in nonprofit presses, journals, and scholarly publications are well suited for this sequence.

Skillsets acquired by completing the sequence includes proofreading, editing, design and layout, marketing, advertising, permissions, graphic work, record keeping, archiving, and bulk/distribution mailing. By providing a broad work experience, students not only build their portfolios, but also enter the marketplace with valuable and current skills.

The Game Design Sequence in the Creative Technologies (CTK) program at Illinois State lets you forge your own paths in the industry.
