Elementary Education
The Elementary Teacher Education program at Illinois State will prepare you for a professional educator's license to teach grades 1-6. The program is recognized as a model of standards-based and performance-based teacher education.

Throughout your coursework, you will gain the professional knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to become a highly effective elementary classroom teacher and informed decision-maker about elementary curriculum and instruction.

Journalism is changing rapidly in the 21st century, with stories moving across a range of platforms – from television and the web to radio, newspapers and magazines, as well as across social networks like Twitter and Facebook. This means that the budding journalist needs to know not only how to gather facts and write informative stories, but also how to work with audio and video clips, create and use web sites, and be adept at distributing news through social media.

The mass media program at ISU consists of two tracks:

As a mass media major, you will learn about the history of the media industries while practicing the business and creation of media in their coursework and hands-on experiences at our student media outlets:

• Student Television Workshop

The Actuarial Program at Illinois State University is a Center for Actuarial Excellence, one of the first nine academic programs in the United States to receive that recognition in 2009, and the first one in the State of Illinois. It is one of the leading actuarial programs in the United States, offering an undergraduate Bachelor degree, and a graduate Master degree. The program combines high quality education in all areas of actuarial theory with serious commitment to actuarial practice and professionalism.

The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

Human Development and Family Science
The Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) major prepares students to provide educational, preventive and intervention services to individuals and families which enhance personal, family and community well-being. Students develop the skills needed to assist people of all ages achieve individual and family well-being.

Marketing - Professional Sales
The Professional Sales sequence exposes students to the latest theories and practice in sales education, research, and the profession. Students complete three required courses in marketing and two required and three elective courses in professional sales. The program incorporates existing personal selling and sales management courses, and offers several specialized classes including: Key Account and Relationship Management, Professional Sales Planning and Analysis, and Advanced Professional Selling and Negotiation.

Construction Management
Accredited by the American Council For Construction Education (ACCE), the Construction Management major develops leaders for the building construction industry.

Through an interdisciplinary curriculum, students receive a background in:

• Construction management
• Administration
• Technology
• Architectural and engineering principles
• Business
• Applied science
• Mathematics

The program focuses on production, technical, and management capabilities rather than design and craft skills.

The Individualized sequence of the Interdisciplinary Studies major allows a student, with the help of a faculty sponsor, to design a specialized program of study not otherwise offered by the University. This is intended for the student whose specific interests cannot be accommodated within existing programs.

Some topics chosen by students include Classical Civilization, Three Dimensional Design, and International Public Relations. The Individualized sequence is typically a second or auxiliary major but may be proposed as a primary major.

Management - Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management
This program is primarily oriented toward preparation for careers in professional accountancy and is designed to meet the formal requirements for a student to sit for the CPA examination. The Accountancy and Information Systems sequence permits students to emphasize study of information systems related to accounting.
