Economics - Financial Economics
The Financial Economics sequence provides students training in the financial theory of the firm, financial markets and institutions to complement their training in applied economics analysis. It is designed for students who have an interest in employment opportunities in the financial sector such as investment and commercial banks, economic and financial asset management companies, and consulting firms, or who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. degree.

This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

M.S. in Biological Sciences with sequences in: Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics; Bioenergy Sciences; Biomathematics; Biotechnology; Conservation Biology; Neuroscience and Physiology; and a Ph.D. degree in Biological Sciences with sequences in: Behavior, Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics; Molecular and Cellular Biology; and Neurosciences.

In English Studies, multiple and interdisciplinary perspectives are used to examine and produce texts for audiences communicating in English: How do cultures shape language and how does language shape culture? How do intersections of cultures affect communication across borders? What forms can we create to connect and enter into dialogue with each other?

Children's Literature, Creative Writing, English Education, Linguistics, Literary and Cultural Studies, Rhetoric and Writing (including New Media Studies, Professional Writing and Rhetorics, Rhetoric and Composition, and Teaching Writing), and TESOL offer our community of students and researchers the means of examining how we teach, learn, and understand ourselves and others through the stories we tell and the ways in which we tell them.

Mathematics - Actuarial Science

The Actuarial Science graduate sequence is typically a 32-credit hour program. Most students can complete the program within two years of study beyond the bachelor's degree. We strongly encourage our Actuarial Science students to take related courses in economics, finance, insurance, and law.

Illinois State was one of only four institutions in the world to be honored with the Casualty Actuarial Society University Award in 2016. We are also one of very few universities in the U.S. honored by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence.

Special Education - Specialist in Learning and Behavior
As the largest specialty program, the Learning and Behavior Specialist prepares students to teach in most public special education classrooms. Specialists in Learning and Behavior teach children with learning, emotional, or cognitive disabilities, orthopedic impairments, autism spectrum, multiple disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, or other health impairments.

As a student in the Mathematics Education program at Illinois State University, you will be challenged, tested, supported, and you will be rewarded.

You will be challenged to extend your knowledge and experience in mathematics through courses taken by students completing other sequences within the department's major, as well as through courses in education. You will become a mathematician, and you will become a teacher.

As a Mathematics Education student, you will be tested as you strive to meet the standards of excellence established for those becoming mathematics teachers.

Family and Consumer Sciences - Teacher Education
The FCS teacher education program has a strong reputation of producing high-caliber teachers. It focuses on the fundamentals of teaching and prepares FCS teacher candidates in:

• Sewing
• Textile and Fashion
• Food, Nutrition, and Hospitality
• Interior Design
• Consumer Education

Our program meets the Illinois teacher licensure requirements. Teacher candidates can get an Illinois teacher's license in a four or two-year degree program . Graduates are qualified to teach 6th through 12th grades in all areas of FCS. Endorsement options are also available.

Mathematics
The Mathematics sequence in the Mathematics major first provides students with a strong foundation in Mathematics and then gives students the flexibility to explore various aspects of the discipline.

There is also the flexibility within the Mathematics major for a student to pursue a minor in a related field of study. Such a program can prepare students for jobs in industry and government as well as prepare students for graduate study in Mathematics.

Computer Science
Master of Science in Computer Science (MSCS) at Illinois State gives you the knowledge and tools necessary to study important issues in computer science to obtain productive employment or pursue advanced degrees.

Our program emphasizes foundational knowledge in computer science and programmatic application of fundamental concepts in leading-edge applications.

It is appropriate for a range of students, including industry computing professionals seeking career advancement, students wishing to expand on their undergraduate computer science work and/or prepare for doctoral degree, and individuals wishing to make a career change.
