Biology - Molecular and Cellular Biology
The bachelor’s degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology provides a solid foundation in the life sciences for students seeking careers in medicine, government, or entry-level positions in biotechnology as well as the pharmaceutical industry.

The degree also serves as a basis for graduate studies in biology. While the degree may satisfy many requirements for professional and graduate programs, it is important to consult the admission requirements for a particular program as early as possible. Additional coursework may be taken as electives to support later postgraduate work.

The Developmental Psychology graduate sequence focuses on the scientific study of stability and change in biological, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning across the life span. This focus on development is a distinctly ecological and interdisciplinary approach. The curriculum offers in-depth exposure to developmental theories, methodologies, and applications. Following a first year foundations curriculum, students can choose a sequence within an individual studio. Within each sequence, faculty are actively engaged in introducing students to various technical skills and ideas specific to that discipline. The cohesive sequencing of courses within each studio area allows the student to build skills and knowledge towards a highly sophisticated level of work in that field of exploration.

Quantitative Economics is an interdisciplinary program between the Economics and the Mathematics departments. The sequence is designed for students who intend to pursue a double Master’s in Applied Economics and Mathematics/Statistics, for students interested in the quantitative aspects of Economics, and/or for students interested in enhancing their mathematics skills to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics in the future.

In addition to 22 hours of core courses in economic theory, you will take 12 or more hours of graduate-level math courses.

This is a STEM designated degree, which focuses on the systematic study of mathematical and statistical analysis of economic phenomena and problems. STEM designated degree programs offer additional benefits for students, including potential grant funded opportunities and, for international students, extended OPT study options.

The Web Application Development major is a sequence in Information Systems.

Information Systems (IS) is at the heart of any organization. Companies rely on information to make good decisions, create new products and services, and understand their target audience. IS professionals integrate hardware and software to help organizations manage their information.

The Information Systems program at Illinois State is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.

The internet hosts many web applications. From search engines to recommendations on what your next online purchase should be, web applications are the intelligence behind the websites we visit every day.

In this major, you learn how to code and design web applications that solve real-world issues and power engaging websites. We cover topics such as:

• Client and server-side scripting – write instructions for either a web browser or server to perform
• Web interface design – make sure websites are easy to use
• Web frameworks – create templates that make the development process faster
• Mobile application development – design software for smartphones and tablets
• Web database processing – learn how information is stored and retrieved on the internet
• Web application testing and evaluation – identify weaknesses in software and come up with solutions

Special Education - Specialist in Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Specialists in Deaf and Hard of Hearing teach students in pre-school through age 21 in public schools and other specialized programs. Students in this specialty take courses in language, literacy, speech pathology, audiology, and sign language.

Interior Design
The Interior Design major prepares students to design innovative, functional, supportive and responsible interior environments that positively impact the quality of life. The curriculum develops students' skills and knowledge in color and design, drafting, space planning, building and interior systems, materials and finishes, historical interiors, building and barrier-free codes, and Auto-CAD. The needs of special populations and the mandates that regulate the field of interior design are emphasized.

Illinois State's Interior Design program is accredited by the Council of Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA). This prepares students for entry-level Interior Design practice, for advanced study, and to apply for membership in professional Interior Design organizations. The BS or BA in Interior Design granted by Illinois State University meets the educational requirement for eligibility to sit for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification Examination (NCIDQ Exam).

The Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) major prepares students to provide educational, preventive and intervention services to individuals and families which enhance personal, family and community well-being. Students develop the skills needed to assist people of all ages achieve individual and family well-being.
