Biomedical Sciences
The Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences (BMD) program prepares you for health-related graduate and professional study or for entry into one of the fastest growing occupational sectors.
Are you looking for a flexible and solid undergraduate degree that will prepare you for today’s fastest growing occupational sector? Then BMD is for you.
You will tailor your degree to fit your academic and career goals. The program, which includes coursework in physiology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, medical microbiology and immunology, plus the pathological basis of disease, includes six elective courses that you choose based on your individual health-related educational track.

Immunology
Immunology is the study of the immune system, including the cells, organs, tissues, and the function the system plays in protecting humans against infectious diseases. It's the perfect foundation for a career in health care, biomedical research, or nearly anything that requires a white coat.

In fact, immunology is a collaborative field, and that's why your training will come from a broad spectrum of the scientific community. You'll take classes in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics, taught through both our medical school and biology department. And, we’ll help you prepare for a continued education or career in fields such as biochemistry, cell biology, cancer biology, infectious diseases, neurobiology, endocrinology, and cardiology.

Communication Studies
Communication, whether verbal or nonverbal, is one of the most important skills prized by employers today. It can be an essential tool for success in a wide range of fields, including sales, emergency management, client service, public relations, and much more.

That's why, at UAB, we made this program so intensive. We want to make you the best communicator you can be. To begin, you will take classes covering topics such as writing, interviewing, pitching, and nonverbal communication skills. Then, you will also take leadership and management classes. Finally, your specific concentration will help you tailor your knowledge and experience. Choose from communication management, sports communication, or mass communication, which includes broadcasting, journalism, and public relations.

Chemistry
Chemistry connects the basic sciences with all of the applied sciences, including medicine and engineering. The foundations of the world’s economy in the next generation, including advanced materials, fuels, energy, nanomaterials, medicines, sensors, biotechnology, and genomics, will all have chemistry at their core. As a result, a degree in chemistry opens the door to a wide variety of careers, such as medicine, pharmacy, health professions, forensics, and research. Accounting is the language of business.  Communicating relevant financial accounting information and providing reliable financial reports is an essential component of successful business endeavors across the globe.  Because their extensive knowledge of business activities, accountants have the flexibility and knowledge for branding out into management and entrepreneurial roles.  UAB's Accounting Program offers a high-quality, practice-oriented educational experience designed for aspiring accountants seeking an innovative, technology driven learning environment.

A bachelor’s level education in accounting can lead to a wide variety of career choices in business, finance, insurance, investing, tax or auditing. It also paves the way to a master’s degree and future opportunities in financial management. Accounting graduates are hired by accounting firms, banks, private companies, non-profit organizations, insurance companies, government agencies, and corporations.

Materials engineering is a highly diverse field with applications connected to virtually all scientific disciplines. Therefore, the Master of Science program at UAB is a viable option for students whose background includes a baccalaureate degree from other engineering fields or from any number of physical science disciplines.

Prospective students should demonstrate competence in fields of study that emphasize structure, processing, performance, and properties of materials.

In political science, we teach you how American government and politics compare with the rest of the world. This major is an excellent option if your career interests are either political campaigns, nonprofit advocacy, political research, foreign diplomacy, law, journalism, or education.

To get you started, we'll give you an overview of American government, comparative politics, international relations, political theory, and data and policy. Then, your advisor will help you choose between a line of study that's focused on the United States and one that's more internationally centered. At that point, you'll be able to tailor your curriculum with your goals in mind, search for appropriate internships, and even potentially get one-on-one faculty mentoring through the honors program.

The Master of Science in Engineering Management (MSEM) is a joint degree between the School of Engineering and the Collat School of Business.

The MSEM program is designed to further develop the technical, managerial, and professional capabilities of engineering graduates, preparing them for earlier entry into positions of leadership within a wide variety of industries and organizational types. The technical engineering coursework emphasizes a systems-oriented, multidisciplinary approach to solving complex problems. The managerial and professional coursework helps develop business acumen, strategic thinking, and professional work habits that are the hallmark of excellence in engineering.

The program is intended for recent graduates without industry experience. Classes are held on-campus only.

African American Studies
The BA in African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program examining African life and culture, both on the African continent and the diaspora. As a student, you will learn about the African and African American experience from different perspectives including English, history, political science, sociology, and public health.
