Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

Social Work
If you want to help people, consider a social work degree, and learn how to make a difference in some of the world's most difficult challenges—poverty, addiction, physical and mental illness, discrimination, and loss. In the process, find out how to turn social work into a career.

To begin with, we'll teach you about values, welfare, human behavior, social environments, and research. You'll get to explore topics like social and economic justice for populations at risk. Are you an engineer with wide-ranging interests? Are you interested in collaborating with engineers and scientists from other disciplines? If so, the UAB Department of Mechanical Engineering offers Master of Science program that may be just what you're looking for to enhance your academic or professional engineering credentials.

Mechanical engineering is a broad-based discipline, and graduate students will have opportunities to explore a number of research areas where they will work alongside nationally and internationally known faculty mentors. The ME department offers a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree, including both Thesis and non-Thesis options.

Students who successfully complete a Graduate Pathway program in Public Administration are assured progression to a nationally-ranked UAB graduate degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. Public Administration
If you're interested in the public sector, this is definitely a degree for you to consider. We have numerous graduates who've gone on to serve in government—one was a major party candidate in Alabama's 2018 governor race. Complete the program, and you could be next.

As you begin your education, it's best to have an idea of your career goals. Our 39-hour curriculum includes a choice between two concentrations: nonprofit management and public management and planning. With nonprofit management, we'll teach you about fundraising and development, grant management, and program evaluation. If you choose public management and planning, you'll learn about preparing and managing budgets, economic development, and community development at the federal, state, and local level. No matter which concentration you pick, however, you'll need to choose between a thesis or a non-thesis track. Best of all, we've designed the entire program to fit your professional schedule. Many classes are offered in the evening, while others are a mix of online and face-to-face instruction.

The Charles and Patsy Collat Industrial Distribution (ID) Program is a rare degree program that puts you at the center of one of the fastest growing fields in business.  Distribution professionals manage the flow of materials from manufacturers to distributors to customers- which means they play a key role in propelling the economy forward by supplying the building blocks for the products America creates and the world buys. Industrial distributors supply government, industry, and manufacturers, with products necessary for business and health care operations.

Graduates are prepared for careers with manufacturers or distributors in technical industries for sales engineering, logistics, marketing, inventory and purchasing positions as well as branch management.

Genetic and Genome Sciences
Genetics is a fundamental aspect of all biological processes and affects all facets of our lives. Understanding and analyzing the function and behavior of genes is critical to improving the quality of life for human beings and has far-reaching implications for our entire global ecosystem.

Traditionally viewed as a discipline within biological sciences, today, the study of genetics and genomics is an interdisciplinary exercise that involves multiple fields, including computational sciences and information systems.
It is also a rapidly advancing field in research and training. With the ever-increasing use of genetic tests, and of whole genome sequence information for disease diagnostics, there is a high demand for qualified and experienced genetics researchers and health-related professionals. The UAB Undergraduate Program in Genetics and Genomic Sciences (GGS) is designed to nurture a new generation of UAB undergraduates who will be ideally equipped to pursue and succeed in a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology in industry, and other health-related sciences.

A master of science in civil engineering equips engineers to advance in various industrial or academic career fields that emphasize high-level and collaborative research. An M.S. in civil engineering can serve as a step toward a Ph.D. in engineering, or it can provide the experience and credentials needed to increase competiveness in the job market. The program can be completed in as few as two years, though the typical student takes two courses per term for five semesters.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management (HCM) was established at UAB in 1982. The degree offers a pathway into entry and mid?level management careers for some and serves as a foundation for success in graduate?level academic or professional degree programs for others.
A successful healthcare practice not only has great providers—doctors, nurses, optometrists, dentists, and the like—it has high quality management. Our Health Care Management degree helps provide a pathway for students who want to go into mid-level management careers or continue onto a graduate program.

We designed this program for aspiring leaders, like you, who want to improve healthcare systems, including in hospitals, managed care organizations, medical group practices, consulting firms, government agencies, non-profits, and other companies in ambulatory, long-term care, insurance, and pharmaceutical.
