Many of the world’s leading companies began as student startups. Could one of your big ideas be next? At UAB, we can teach you how to turn your idea into a business, preparing you to be an entrepreneur who adapts to change, solves problems, and can thrive in all sorts of environments.

You see, before you have a big idea, you have to find the right problem to solve. Our curriculum is designed to show you how to fall in love with a problem so that you can find the right solution. Then we want you to take that solution and turn it into a viable business. To do this, you’ll take required courses like The Entrepreneurial Mindset, Entrepreneurial Strategy and Operations, and The Entrepreneurial Engagement Seminar, along with core business classes that cover the basics of marketing, finance, management, and more. You’ll even take Public Speaking to help you develop the skills to deliver that perfect pitch. We also want your education to be full of hands-on experience. Because how else will you really learn how to launch a business? You can pursue an internship with a local start-up, join a team of students exploring business ventures or collaborating on new ideas in one of UAB’s extracurricular programs, or complete a directed study in entrepreneurship.

Art
Do you have a burning desire to express yourself through a variety of art media? Create art that transforms the world around you through a career in art direction, graphic design, museum curation, art conservation — or just about any other profession you can imagine.

From the moment you set foot on campus, we'll immerse you in the arts. Your coursework will teach you multiple disciplines of fine arts and design, and your access to UAB's Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts and the Birmingham Museum of Art will give you an intimate exposure to exhibits, displays, and special events. Choose an art studio concentration, and we'll encourage you to experiment with various styles. Concentrate in art history, and you'll focus on visual literacy and critical thinking.

Because managers are the ones who skillfully coordinate and control the activities of the organization to achieve business goals.  At the core of good management is the need to know how to attract, motivate and reward the best and brightest people.  Management is also about effective alignment.  Organizations are complicated systems that rely on the effective coordination of people, technology and organizational processes to be successful.  Managers drive this alignment through their skills of strategic thinking, strong communications and employee motivation to create business value.

Today’s business environment requires graduates who can effectively evaluate and make decisions, lead employees and manage resources. Management is ideal for people who like big picture thinking, can understand how processes work, have a passion for problem-solving and who can multi-task effectively to help create value for the organization. Economics
If you study economics, you'll find there's actually a science behind how and why money gets spent in a society. At UAB, we'll get you ready for a career in research, consulting, or other industry.

To get prepared, you need a solid foundation in economics and decision-sciences, and that's exactly what our program will give you. Whether you're into data-driven analysis or the philosophy of decision science, we have a concentration that's perfect for you. Choose between mathematical economics, economic analysis and policy, or philosophy, politics, and economics. You will have the opportunity to make networking connections through organizations such as the Economics Club, International Business Association, and the Business Honors Program.

The BA in African American Studies is an interdisciplinary program examining African life and culture, both on the African continent and the diaspora. As a student, you will learn about the African and African American experience from different perspectives including English, history, political science, sociology, and public health.

Students who successfully complete an INTO UAB Graduate Pathway program in Electrical and Computer Engineering are assured progression to a UAB graduate engineering degree program upon submission of additional required application materials. After successfully completing the Pathway program, you are guaranteed to enter the graduate degree program. This transition to university from an INTO program is called progression.

Electrical and Computer Engineering
In the Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering (MSECE) program you’ll be able to learn advanced skills in electrical and computer engineering or continue on a path for entry into a doctoral program. The curriculum builds on the foundation of knowledge and skills you established when you earned your bachelor's.

The MSECE provides advanced study in specialized areas such as computer software and networking, control, microelectronics and embedded systems, signal and image processing, power systems and telecommunication. You'll have the option of completing a thesis (involving research and an oral defense) or a non-thesis route (involving extra coursework and a graduate project).

Exciting research areas and course work emphases are available to meet a variety of goals and interests. Limited financial assistance may be available for well-qualified students admitted into the MSECE program.

Mathematics
Mathematics is the study of quantity, structure, space, and change. By understanding this universal language, you'll have problem-solving abilities that are useful in business, engineering, medicine, technology, and a seemingly infinite number of other fields.

In fact, many mathematics grads go on to work at NASA, Bell Labs, and even the National Security Agency. But to get there, you have to start here, with subjects like differential equations, advanced calculus, and mathematical modeling. If you're looking to further your education, consider our mathematics accelerated master's program, where you can complete both your bachelor's and master's in only four years. Interested in teaching? Earn a teaching certificate along with your degree through UABTeach.

As a musical theatre student, you'll learn about acting, voice, singing, music, movement, and dance. Whether you want to be an actor, singer, dancer, or another performance artist, we will show you the ins-and-outs of working in theatre in New York, Los Angeles, or elsewhere.

Your entry into musical theatre begins with an Introduction to Theatre or an Introduction to Dance, followed by coursework designed to further develop your dance skills. You'll begin to apply these skills through musical theatre performances, acting, theatre technology, and other experiences, such as our NYC Showcase course. Finally, you'll participate in at least four main stage productions per year, plus studio productions. In the end, you will have had both hands-on and classroom experience in many different areas of musical theatre.

Neuroscience
Neuroscience is the study of the body's nervous system—or in other words, how the brain shares information throughout the body. A degree in this program can help you prepare for a career in academic or government research, medicine, biotechnology, or most health-related fields.

Because this program is a partnership between the Department of Neurobiology in the School of Medicine and the Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, you'll have a diverse course offering that includes biology, chemistry, math, physics, psychology, and neurobiology. Furthermore, this program satisfies most prerequisite course requirements for those looking to go on to medical school or to pursue another career in health care. Finally, you'll have an opportunity to earn a general science teaching certification through UABTeach and have a chance to collaborate and research with a faculty member on campus.
