Overview
Calling all problem-solvers. Uncover meaningful ways to use math, science and technology to improve how humans live their day-to-day lives. The Bachelor of General Studies with an emphasis on Science, Technology, Health and Society teaches students how to employ math and science to find solutions to important world concerns in areas such as health, natural resources, conservation, sustainability, information science and engineering. Not only does this program encourage collaboration and creative thinking to find workable solutions, but it also gives students an understanding of the global context that surrounds science and technology. Additionally, students develop a critical awareness of the methods and limits of scientific inquiry while fostering observational and analytical skills, as well as skills in quantitative analysis and deductive reasoning.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):

The Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies program asks students to choose from one of two emphases and language or culture. The two differ in the amount of language students learn. The Chinese Culture Intensive focus requires less language and provides a strong foundation in Chinese history, religion, culture and society. Students learn how to articulate the commonalities, complexity and diversity within and across Chinese culture. Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Womens Studies with Emphasis in Chicana and Latina Studies
Forge a deeper understanding of how aspects of race and gender discrimination overlap, and then learn ways to dismantle the systems that keep those factors in place. Gender and Women's Studies is an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts that works to contest historical, ongoing and pervasive oppression based on gender, race, sexuality, class, ability and citizenship. Students can opt for an emphasis in Chicana and Latina Studies, a course of study that works with the Gender and Women's Studies department's prestigious Southwest Institute for Research on Women (SIROW). Established in 1979, SIROW develops research-action projects of importance to women in the Southwestern U.S. and the Mexico-U.S. border regions. The Gender and Women's Studies department, founded in 1975 and led by a renowned faculty, stands at the forefront of feminist research and curriculum.

The University of Arizona's Bachelor of Science in Public Health is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. Students choosing the Environmental and Occupational Health emphasis focus on environmental justice, public health preparedness, industrial impact, sanitation, and safety fundamentals.
